Red Jig Hooks

Featured Replies

OK gentlemen, I was convinced enough from one of our previous discussions to try useing all red jig hooks in 2005. I just ordered 1000 each of 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0 aberdeen jig hooks from my supplier.  I'll make these into tube and round lead head jigs, which I use on the river. Most of the season, my water is stained to some degree and only gets clear in Oct. and Nov. I figure a little touch of bleeding red can't hurt.

Does anyone else use these, or am I going to be the only one.

I don't have any jigs with red hooks, but I do have some spinnerbaits and cranks with them. I can't say foe a definate that they incresed my strike ratio, but I have caught fish with them on these lures.

I use them and I think they work....sometimes. I don't think they hurt at all either. Tubes and crankbaits for me.

I use red Gama's almost exclusively on my drop shots with great success.  I also use a Gamakatsu red hooked jig, with a red/white head for fishing 3' to 5" grubs.  I have not noticed a marked difference there however.

I have a small soft bait box I carry around when I'm pond jumping.  One section is dedicated to hooks and I put red hooks in with the others so they are fished pretty much at random.  I don't think they make any difference to the fish but I'm positive your clients will be impressed.  They have probably read or heard something about "the red"  and you will be making a big statement that you are on top of the latest trends and fish catching technology.  That's good marketing and it won't hurt a thing.  Your statistical sampling will be more significant than individual results so please report your findings next year.

I use them for my soft jerk baits, spinnerbait trailors, tubes and my texas rigged worms

I have forund a great advantage . When you buy Gamagatsu extra wide 3/0 hooks you get a extra hook in the package for the same money at our Wal-Mart ;D

Started making the lead head jigs today, poured about 200 in various sizes so far. They sure are pretty, red with bright new silver lead. Look like Christmas tree ornaments, but the wife said"Don't you dare"

Keep us posted on your results with the red hooks.
