Finally I break the Spinnerbait curse!

Featured Replies

Went to Varner last night after work, and met my new tournament partner there.  We went out for two hours, and I am glad we did.  I caught my first and second Bass ever on a Spinnerbait.  The only bad part of it was, the biggest one, actually swallowed the spinnerbait and was hooked clear back in the gills.  He was pouring blood all over by the time I got him in the boat, and so I had to keep him and fillet him out.

We landed 4 fish total in 2 hrs. with the big one going 3 + lbs. and the smallest about 2.      We lost or missed 4 or 5 more in that time as well.

It was a good 2 hrs on the water.

Oh, and Fluke?  If I can catch fish on a spinnerbait, there is hope for you too... ;D ;D

Good job! I wouldn't mind hearing a few more details about your spinnerbait(size, color, blades, etc...), and what retrieve you used to nail those bass. Congratulations on breaking your "curse", mine is the carolina rig. >:(

We were throwing spinnerbaits with white or white and chartruese skirts.  One willow leaf blade, one colorado blade.

The retrieve was just fast enough to keep it working over the grass.  They hit it like a freight train.  We were working points and then moving out deeper and casting over the grass flats and retreiving towards the deep water.

Congrats on your first catch on a spinner. I love catching bass on a spinner. Escpecially when they really attack it.

congrats it took me four years of throwing them then gettin fed up with them to finaly break the cures, i caught my first spinnerbait bass in early may, i was soooooooooooo suped about it. now they are my go to baits.

It took me a while to get confidence in spinnerbaits too but now I almost always throw one.

Nice catchin'!

Dan

I love throwing a spinner bait. When a spinner bait bite is on there is nothing better. And usually if the spinner bait bite is on the top water bite is on because the bass are feeding on shad. Look for shad popping out of the water trying to escape the bass!!

Hope you catch them like that in your tournament!   8-) 8-)

Spinnerbaits are like Jigs, they take a long time to learn how to work correctly (trust me!) But once you get them down they really can produce fish!

I feel that I learned a few valuable lessons on this trip, about spinnerbaits.  My new tx partner was a big help.  All, I know is that I look forward to catching more fish on that spinnerbait.  Big Ones! ;D

Glenn says you can't catch big bass on spinnerbaits. :o

And his wife agrees!

Congrats.

Today I was running a double colorado blade right under the surface and had a gar totally blast it.  Miraculously, the gar stayed hooked up for several seconds and then shook loose.  Had several other gar nips on the spinnerbait, but the bass bait of the day was the shakey head rig.  Got a 4lber on that!

congrats on breaking the curse.  I had a box full of them and hardly ever threw one(never caught anything)  I didn't catch my first one on a spinnerbait till last year.  I have one tied on all the time now. ;)
