changing hooks on crankbaits

Featured Replies

How do you change hooks on crankbaits. I have done it before and it's so much work for me. I literally struggle.

I have all these crankbaits with red hooks and they need to be change. Can I a find local fishing or tackle stores that provide this service? because I know they have store's that repair reels. Do they provide the hooks and such for me or what?

It really isn't that hard to change the hooks. If you buy a good set off needle nose pliers that have the little hook on the tip. All you need to do is take the pliers and grab the ring and pull it out just enough to open it up to take the hook off. Its just like adding a new key to your key ring. Just a little more dangerous if you slip haha. If nothing else you could send them to me with the hooks you want on them and I will gladly set them up for you. Another thing you may want to do is to change you front hook to a smaller hook then your back hook.

Yep,just need a split ring plier, makes life a whole lot easier.

Make sure you keep some extra split rings around too in case one gets bent or starts to rust.

I find it's easier if I take the hook and split ring off the lure together first, then the hook off the split ring. Then put the whole thing back together in reverse order.  Trying to take the hook off the split ring while still on the lure, I find the lure gets in the way.
