Hey everyone!!!  

 I just got home from South Hill, VA and I couldn't wait to get on here and share this with you all! FIRST - Let me apologize for the pictures.  It was 730pm on a farm, with no light anymore.  Of course, no digital camera was around, just my cell phone.  But the pictures are my proof  

While fishing on 'my' private pond on the farm for a couple hours I caught some dinks here and there.  It was slower than usual.  I had a friends daughter out there with me teaching her how to fish I wasn't really  paying attention to what I was doing.  Around 730pm, it was really dark and I was about to head in since I couldn't see much.

Then I see my wife and her friend walking down to the pond, and my wife asks me if I can show her how to cast.  So I give a sigh, and agree.  Her first cast lands in the mud......Second cast actually wasn't bad.  So she asks 'what now?' and I start showing her to how reel it in.....She starts reeling for about 4 seconds and my Calcutta lizard (green and pumpkin) is about 10 feet from the edge of the pond when.................

SPLASH!!!!!!!!  It sounded like someone thru a rock into the pond....I see the rod arch over, and the line flying off the reel.....I tell my wife to quickly hand me the pole, and I take it, and fight for a good three minutes.....The fish just never got tired....I let it run, jump, flip, you name it....So I finally got it up close and my father in law reached in and grabbed it......Wow she was big...

The first PB I caught in there before was smaller than this... My guess is a little over 6 pounds, my father in law said 7 or maybe over...... I know it kinda hard to tell by the pics but she was huge.  In the picture with me holding it, I got the fish right up against my body, I'm not holding it out.  It's amazing my wife landed her just playing around.  

Now she argues she caught it, while I'm trying to remain civil and agree on the fact we BOTH caught it.  Either way, an amazing Saturday night....

PS..........It was released...I got nervous cause we had her out for about a minute trying to get the hook out, then try the photos.....I put her in the water and she just sat there for 3-4 seconds, then finally swam away.

Definitely not that big.

That fish is a SOLID 6 1/2 - 7 1/2lbs though. Tough to tell from pics, but that's a great fish man. When it's your PB that's all that matters, although it's always nice to have a scale to put an exact number on a PB.

Yeah somewhere around there.... 6-8lbs.....A guy who attended our cook out said about 8lbs....I say near 7lbs....Either way, it was a great fish.  And yes, the mouth was huge....  I had 2 hands holding that bottom lip to make sure I didn't let it drop cause she was still fighting!!  More good news, my wife got excited over the catch and may be starting soon as well  8-)  Stuff like this reminds me why I continue to love this sport.  I've only been doing this for 2-3 months, and I got years of fishing memories ahead.  Just wait till I get on a boat  

haha i was wondering what your second arm was doing in there lol. i was thinkin, either that thing weighs 40lbs, or he's just really weak! lol j/k

Buy a scale, they are not expensive and it will take the guesswork out of your next PB!.

Most "8 lb bass" weigh around 5 Lbs.  :

I agree with RW, that fish is about 5-6lbs. but still a heck of a fish!
