catching the big ones

Featured Replies

today i hooked some bass with my zoom bubble gum worms, but had some trouble getting them to my kayak and by that i mean. when i tried to set the hook the bass let go. Any tips?

Kayak is tough, position, position, position. Good hook set with soft plastics requires to the side or over shoulder sweeps for best results and you will have to maintain the boat position in reference to the structure fished to get it done correctly.

Hmm...

Checking your drag is akin to tying a hook, we generally do that

before we go out and maybe a time or two when we're on the water.

Regarding the hook-set, use a "snap-set" for all soft plastics. When you detect a bite, lower your rod tip as you reel down QUICKLY. Snap your wrists to raise the rod tip FORCEFULLY without moving the position of your hands relative to your body. With sharp hooks, this will drive the point home.

That was your fault for not checking your equipment.

Who would mess with your drag on your pole?
