Our bass season is finally open! Now it's GAME ON!!!! I went out in the evening opening day (Saturday June 28th) to a channel that branches off of the main river that I frequently target. I was in search of the "warmest water" and weed growth. And, due to the dark bottom and shallow depths, the warm water and weeds were there. I trolled into the channel throwing a Baby Bass coloured Super Fluke targeting the aggressive fish in the area. After I was confident that I found/caught most of the aggressive fish, I slowed down using a 6" Watermelon Seed/Chartreuse Swirl Stik-O and caught a couple more. Here are a couple of better ones from opening day (both caught on a Stik-O):

But having to wait 'till July to be able to fish for bass,..... man, that has to suck !

MaxDal: You're definitely right; it does suck having to wait until June 28th to catch bass. I would love to be able to get out after em' during the pre-spawn and spawn, but unfortunately we have to wait for post spawn. But, it's GAME ON now!

firefightn15: Yeah, it's nice to FINALLY get out there and target bass. Every time I'd go out after crappie or pickerel I'd be looking at all the great bass cover I would pass by on the way to the lake. I picture the bass and try to figure out how they would be positioned and what technique I could use to lure them into a strike if the season were open at the time. ;D I only target other species to kill time until bass opens. It gets me on the water!

Our Bass season goes from June 28th - November 15th.

Why in the world don't they let it open 'till the start of bass spawn ?

I guess I could not live in Ontario .... or maybe just in the fall for the colors.

Are you far from the US border, you could as well go and fish in the US when it's closed in Canada......

Well...........I don't really know why our season is so short. :-/

I am about 2 1/2 hours from Buffalo and I have no idea when their bass season opens or closes. And, with gas prices these days, wellyou know.

We also had a great opening weekend here in Ontario.... I spent opening day on the lake on our property, then Sunday and Monday evening with the Family in a new spot we found.

I need a card reader for my Camera card as I believe my camera may have crapped out... bought a new one but has a different Flash Card...Hope to post some pics soon.

My wife and daughter caught 10 combined fish Monday evening....

All in All it was a great opeming weekend...

BTW. I believe Bass opens later because of the Spawn....They have a shorter time frame to mature here in Canada before the cold weather hits.
