Wife's First Bass

Featured Replies

I had a fantastic evening of fishing today. My new inflatable boat finally came in yesterday so this afternoon, my wife wanted to go out in it with me for the first time. She has never bass fished before, just a few bluegill from the bank with worms and a bobber when we would go on a family outing.

Well, we get out in the boat (it's awesome by the way) and I fix her up with a spinning outfit rigged with a tube thinking that wouldn't be too hard to fish. She tried for a while without any luck and then said she wanted a bobber. ::)

Well, since I didn't have any, I figured the closest I could come to that would be a dropshot setup. I rigged it up for her and explained how to fish it. Just throw it out, wiggle it a bit, and move it every now and then. First cast, she gets a hit but misses because she just started slowly reeling in. She's excited now. I explain about setting the hook. She throws out again and gets another bite on the next cast. This time she throws a hookset on the fish that KVD would have been proud of. She's fighting the fish and doing alright until it broke the top of the water and splashed around. She wasn't ready for this and at this point is trying to give me the rod to bring the fish in. I refuse to take it but finally get her to fight the fish to the side of the boat where I lip it. It goes at around a pound but to her, it was Jaws! Here's the picture. Yeah, just hanging on the line because she wouldn't touch it either. Looks like I have some training ahead. I'm looking forward to it and hope she becomes a regular. We had a blast.

It's a great feeling to see how excited newbies get when they catch fish.  Thanks for sharing.

Congrats! 8-) Have you got a pic of your boat?

I failed to snap a picture of my entire boat while I was out, but here is a commercial photo of it.

The total length is about 11 feet. The main differences in the one pictured and mine are:

1) I don't have the motor (yet ;))...just an Endura 55 transom mount TM. They still owe me the front mounting bracket too, so my TM is mounted on the back.

2) I have only one swivel seat and another bench seat, but I do have both of the seat mount floor boards and they connect, so it is mostly a hard bottom. Also, I got the cheaper model of seat (round). The shaped seat like the ones in the photo cost about $160 each. The round ones are about half of that price.

3) I have a four-rod holder that mounts on the side which I really like.

There's plenty of room for two people to fish. I'm really liking it so far. I had a Sea Eagle 9 before this and although I really liked that, I like this one MUCH better although it cost a lot more too. It is more stable, firm floor, and about two feet longer. The pedestal seat makes a world of difference too. They make a front deck for them for a deck mounted foot controlled TM. If you are interested, here is the website for them http://www.codam.co.kr/ (It is in Korean but the different models are listed on the lefthand side of the page. The prices are in Korean won too, and the current exchange rate is about 1010 won to the dollar). If you have any questions, let me know.

The only problem is now the bait monkey will be working at you from your wife's angle too!

Oh well could be worse. Congrats to her

nice fish and nice boat! The boat looks like it would be very stable, whats the width on that thing?

That is awesome! Congrats to your wife on the great fish she caught. Job well done. She is a pro already!   :) Thanks for sharing.

I don't know the exact measurements but it is about 4 ft. inside and about 6 ft. to the outer edges.. If I remember, I'll measure it the next time I have it out. It is very stable. No problems standing up in it. The two things that I like about it best over the Sea Eagle are the pedestal seats and the hard floor. There are three wooden slats that go underneath the floor that you can't see in the photo. Also, there is another narrow air chamber (6" wide?) that runs down the middle from front to back that provides additional support to the floor. The rubber on this one is firmer than what the Sea Eagle is made from too. The downside is that it takes up more space, but that is to be expected since the boat itself is two feet longer than the Sea Eagle 9 that I had. Assembly is a breeze too. First time using it only took about 30 minutes to get into the water and 30 minutes out. (That was without an electric pump, which I plan to get.) Hopefully, I can improve on that with practice.

That's awesome. It's great to have a wife that'll fish with ya. My wife likes to go fish too and we have had some great time together.

Have fun! :)
