Jig selection

Featured Replies

With all of the different types and brands of jigs on the market, football head ,stand ups, swimming, weedless, finesse etc...etc.

How does a guy find a good  "all purpose " jig.

My jig selection has a very wide range of styles.

My jig knowledge is at best "limited"

My question is can you suggest a style of jig that would best be described as "all purpose :-/

Or am I to be left with having to buy structure specific styles, and have to carry along 1 for each scenario I encounter >;)

This question has riddled me for awhile...

Oldham's Trailer Hitch Jig  ;)

I am becomming a fan of poison tail jigs for all purpose.  They do well in rocks, grass, or brush and have both light and heavy sizes.  GMAN and a few others on this site make them.  I'll be making them soon too.

This thread is currently running a few lines down on page 1:

I know some guys use a different style for various situations or conditions, but many of use one style for everything. I like 1/2 oz

grass jigs with stand-up hooks for everything.

Re: Why do you fish the jig you fish?

I fish 1/2 oz GMAN's jigs, 1/2 oz Micro Munch Tackle and 3/8 oz Evolution E2.

All three have high quality, stand-up hooks, full, lively skirts and vibrant color.

These jigs have all produced very well for me and I highly recommend them.
