First time with c-rig

Featured Replies

Well, in my ever growing quest to try to learn new ways to catch bass, I decided to try a c-rig tonight. This was also the first time that I have used a lizard while fishing. I am not sure if it was the c-rig or the lizard, but it worked! I caught two 3 pounders, the first of which was on the first cast! Can't beat trying a new lure or new technique and catch a nice bass on the first cast!

Nice Job!

I just started using c-rig the other day for the first time and like you caught a couple pretty nice bass right off the bat.

Can't believe I hadnt tried it before.

Way to go! Really need to break down and get some confidence in this :-[...

Nice looking fish, the c-rig is an awesome set-up, I have had much luck using french fries and also c-rigging jerk baits.

Good Job

Probably a little bit of both.

Congratulations! Look at all the new hardware you now have to keep stocked up on.

I tried again last night.  Again I caught one on the first cast!  Of course this one was much smaller, less then a pound.  About a 1/2 hour later I did get a nice hit, set the hook, and the fish started taking off line (12 pound test with drag set at 3.5 pounds per RW).  But then he turned and the line went limp.  I know right away what I did wrong.  I set the hook with a upward motion hook set like then t-rigging.  I did not use the side sweep motion that everyone recommends with c-rig.  I have spent the better part of this year learing the feel and technique of t-rigging.  I finally got to where I am very comfortable with t-rig, so now I am trying something new.  Just need to train my brain of the proper hook sets!
