A Lesson Learned

Featured Replies

I'm not posting this under the tournament forum because I think this is a lesson that could benefit everyone. I'm a member of the Capital City Bassmasters and today we had our 5th annual Leukemia Charity Bass Tournament on the Susquehanna River (we raised $10,000+ for kids with leukemia!). The leukemia tournament is one of the biggest tournaments in the state every year. The club's president and myself were helping with the tournament and we debated entering but we decided against it because we needed to be in by noon to help set up for the weigh-in. After the boats for the tournament launched we decided to go out and do a little fun fishing before we had to go back to setup.  By 10:30 we caught 7 Keepers, our biggest five of which would have weighed at least 15lbs if not more.  We stopped fishing at 11:30 to get ready for the weigh-in. After all the fish were weighed we looked at the top weights. Out of 73 boats our 15lbs would have taken 5th place (well within the payout cutoff) and who knows  how well we would have done if we would have entered the tournament and fished the whole time. Maybe we would have blanked and come in last... but I doubt it.  My point is, if you're ever debating about whether to fish a tournament, keep in mind you never know how well you might do. Further more, if you decide not to fish a tournament, don't go out and fish for fun, you might end up regretting it!  ;)

You teased yourself   ;)....but I feel you made the right decision. You are either working the T or entered in it. Makes for NO questions what so ever if you are involved in the running of the T and than win prize money. Good job!!!!

Sounds like a fantastic tournament.

What waters did you fish?

And I agree with Bassnajr about you fishing or working a tournament.

It is best if you stay "neutral" if you are working a tournament.  ;)

Fun fishing is always the best. When I fish a Tournament I always rush myself but when I am only having fun I take my time and just go with the flow. Its too bad that you didn't enter but overall the children were the real winners here!!! Thank You for what you did!!! ;)

Why did you do that to yourselves ?

We launched from city island (harrisburg) on the susquehanna.

sounds like you had a good time fishing and helped a tourney that brings money in for a good cause... sounds like a darn good day to me.

;D

Great job running the tournament, you guys raised a good amount of money for leukemia.  Thank you for giving back to the community and helping others.

Having a child with Leukemia I wholeheartedly appreciate any effort you put forth. I wish I had known of this tourney! I would have drove from Ohio just to participate. I have some things to do right now but I will post back asap.
