What now?

Featured Replies

Lately I have been catching a lot of bass suspended in 2-3 feet of water on suspending jerkbaits.  Today I lost my last jerkbait and I do not know what to do.  The bass would not strike a blade bait when I was trying it.  The water is 38-40 degrees.  I am thinking that now I should try a spook, carolina rig, or jig.  I could also stroke the blade bait.  What do you guys think I should use?

Shallow crankbait.   What is stoking your blade?

Friday, I had a big bass hang me up in some timber and had to break off a Rat-L-Trap. I had at least 25 more with me. I just tied on another one and kept on fishing and catching.

I got out for a little today and tried a crankbait, jig, bladebait, and spinner bait.  I hooked one big crappie and snagged a huge carp.  I found one jerkbait when I got home so I will see how it works tomorrow.

Stroking is using a huge sweep of the rod to lift your bait 2-8 feet off of the bottom. Stroking is usullay used with spoons and jigs though it can really be used with anything.

I was on the same pattern and the red eye shad/Xr50 took over as the go to bait. I could still catch good fish on the jerkbait but the traps were outfishing them nearly 2 to 1.

Try fishing a trap at several different speeds in the same locations and I guarantee they will bite!

How fast were you fishing the lipless crankbaits?  I have been having to pause for over 45 seconds with my jerkbaits in order to get bit.
