Lake Fork Trip

Featured Replies

Guys,

I just got back from a quick trip to Lake Fork with one of my buddies. While we were there, we teamed up with Bass Resource member, FLW Tour Pro and Lake Fork Guide Tom Redington. We had a blast on the water. The first two days were pretty chilly, but day three was warm.

In our first 2 hours on the water we had 3 fish over 6 lbs, 3 fish over 7 lbs and plenty of 4's and 5's. The biggest fish of the trip was caught by my friend JJ, it went 9 lbs 2 oz. If I remember correctly, we each only had 1 fish that was under 4 lbs the whole trip.

If you are ever down at Lake Fork and need a guide, definately get a hold of Tom Redington.

Below is a picture of the first fish I caught on day 1 at Lake Fork. I think it was 35 degrees outside at the time.

The only part that I hated about the trip was leaving. The closer we got to home, the more frozen water we started to see. There was even some snow left in the ditches and along the tree lines.

Wow!

Nice fish, great pic.

What were you guys throwing? Were the fish shallow or deep?

There's been so much talk about spoons on Lake Fork, did you

guys fish them?

p.s I was at BPS yesterday when Mike Whitten was putting on

a seminar and had a nice chat afterwards. He helped me pick

out a couple of spoons for the Kentucky Lake Roadtrip. My only

concern is that they look like "one cast and gone" to me.

Thanks guys.

We caught most of our fish on Jigs and Spinnerbaits.

My jig was a regular flippin' jig and my buddy was throwing

a Brovarney Swim Jig and did very well.

The fish were on the edges of creeks just waiting for some

warm weather so they could move up to the shallows.

Sounds like a great time to me JT and glad you got into 'em.....

I sure wish I was back down in Texas right now. Currently at my house it is 18 degrees with 30+ mph winds. It SUCKS!!!

R.W., we are fishing them with thin wire hooks and heavier line. If you cannot pop it loose we can pull most of them loose with the heavier line. I'm sure you allready know that , but thought I would just mention it.

Yeah it was definately a fun trip. I really think if that cold front would have stayed up here in the North, the fishing at Fork would have been a heck of a lot better. At least we got to fish though. A lot of our water is still frozen here.
