My new River2sea frog came today..... finaly

Featured Replies

So my new frog came today after being in back order for about 2 months or more, right after the peek of frog season! >;)

First thing I did is get it on my pole and test it in my pool. It was surprisingly hard too walk. I was thinking that if I trimmed the legs it would be easier to walk. Would it be?

The length and the top.

Suprisingly, it looks just like......a frog.  Don't trim the legs.  Just practice.

Sometimes if you trim 1 leg a bit shorter it will help. Be careful, too much trimming can ruin it. Great looking bait. Good luck.

Is that a River2sea?

Yup!

Walking a frog takes a different rod action than walking a stickbait. It's is a much more compact rod action. Very small twitches.

They are pretty soft DD,

You should hope that it floats though. Most of the guys out here call them River2Sink.

Very soft!

Almost too soft, the super shape, Gamakatsu EWG Double Hook, actually pokes small holes in it, not all the way through though. Very fine legs.

Fourbizz, it looks it would keep water out better than the others. It has a rubber band lookin' thing around the hole in the bottom it, looks like it keep the drink out. But I have not fished it yet, so I'm only basing it on looks.

Glenn, thanks for the tip! ;)

Along with small twitches make sure there is more slack in your line than when walking a stick bait.  It took me a few casts with the spro frog to get it right.  Small twitches with more slack than usual.  You can darn near walk a frog in place if you do it right.  If you are new to froggin make sure you wait a while before you set the hook too, you are gonna miss some till ya get the hang of it.  Braided line helps too.  You're in south FL man, you can frog 'em all year long!  Get to it!!

My one and only casting set up is basically made for frogs, 6' 10" 50lb braid, and a high speed reel. I may be rather new to frogs, seeing that I have caught 20 fish or less on them. But I have read just about every article on bass resource about frogging, along with watching stuff on youtube.

Thanks for the "advanced" frog walking tips, the other frog kind of bait I got was the Fish Arrow Cover Jack, super, super easy to walk, just like walking a spook or Sammy.

It does take a little while to get used to the cadence needed to walk the frog, but trimming the legs will help.  It helps with the Spro frogs and even says (on the package) to trim the legs for better walking action.  Like someone else posted, trim a little at a time, too much kills the bait.

X2.

Also, try trimming a little from the legs, one at a time. This can help.

Cut a small amount at a time off.

That is why I gave up on them. Easiest walking frog I have ever used but they are so soft the hook gets stuck in the body every time I skip them.  You should like that Cover Jack, I've caught some good fish on it but I don't use the skirt or the blade, just fish it without a trailer.

What color do you like? I use the poison frog color.
