Farington Lake NJ and freinds first time Bassin

Featured Replies

Hey guys here is a pic of my freind Lenard.  He's from Broklyn NY and has never been outdoors.  So I took him out after work and he loved it.  After most of the day we couldn't get a bite he was just so happy to be out in old mother nature.  Then the weather report was calling for thunder storms around late noon. So the wind picked up and there was alot more over cast.  The bite turned on then. Once he seen me bring in a 2.5 lber and a dink he was very determined to catch his first.  After a few more hours we were both tired after working a 12 hour shift the night before.  So we head in to the launch stopping here and there to try and get Lenny a bass.  Finally he set the hook just rite on the old trusty wacky rig trick stick.  He put it perfectly between 2 lillys that sat infront of a thick lilly patch.  Then  he ripped that dink acrost the water like it was a bag full of a million dollars. lol He was so excited and I was very happy and prould of him.  It made me think of all the time I've been skunked on Spruce Run and I gave up b/c I couldn't catch anything.  A valuble lesson learned I'll tell you.  here are the pics guys enjoy.

Lenards first bass.

In Aug I am taking Lenard his 2 sons and another guy and his boys on a camping fishing trip.  None of them have really ever been camping or fishing till now.

Yes you are rite.  He is already talking about getting a rod and some tackle.  I would like to get it for him but money is tight b/c I am getting married in Sep.  I am going to give him one of my surf rods though.  He is going to go fishing with some other guys he knows back home.

Thanks Zel I am so grateful for all your insight on SR but I just can't get it.  I was telling muddy I know how to fish weed beds, over hangs, flooded timber, emerged rocks ect.  but I don't have a F%^&* clue how to fish drops and ledges.  I could use some lessons if you wouldn't mind meeting me on SR one day.  I'll bring lunch and all.  I just wanted to put it out there b/c I feel like I have given up on that lake already.  Send me a PM if you like thanx JOhn

Nice fish Johnny Boy.  I was just wondering if you ever caught that first bass of 09 hahah.

Nice going fellows, those are some chunky bass for Jersey

You guys really jog my memory!

Back in the day, Farrington Lake was one of Jersey's best bass waters (before monmouth res, round valley & spruce run).

I used to launch a cartopper by the pig farm (long gone, but across from the reformatory)

Also good then was adjoining "Davidson Mill pond" (especially for pickerel).
