Fishing about 4 am this morning and the started to come down in buckets sideways, then the lightning started.  Me and a few others took refuge under a highway bridge.  Over our heads and down about a 100' a lightning bolt hit a transformer on a pole............It was the 4th of July !

Wow, that's nothing to mess around with. It's good to hear that you got a safe distance away from that lightning strike.

I've seen two transformers blow on their own. Once in my rear view mirror, about a quarter mile behind me. The other while I was fishing the Occoquan River about a mile away. Both times they really lit up the sky, and sounded like a gunshot.

Dam, bet that was some mess to clean up.... ;D

florida weather is nothing to mess with.

i remember i was working at sears taking a break out side during a rain storm and a lighting decided to strike the building about 50 feet from me. shook everything in the store. funny thing is , the power didnt even go out. but on a day where the sky doesnt have a cloud in sight , the power would go off , systems would be down etc.

thats one thing i dont miss about florida. i always thought some jerk was at the powerplant just leaning on some control panel and making everyones day a pita.

Only a few homes lost power, but the street lights were knocked out. I've read that Florida leads the nation in lightning strikes and we do lose power quite often.

I was back on the pier fishing within 20 minutes, blew right over.......no fish, lol.
