Finally! A decent smallie!

Featured Replies

Only had a little time to get out today so I hit the Potomac at dam 4. I fished my usual spots below the dam without any luck. So I decided to head up above the dam before it was time to go. Found a decent little spot and started working a Berkley hand pour worm but no takers. So I picked up my jerkbait rod and started fan casting the area. I wasn't having much luck so I figured only a few more casts and I was going to take off. On the next cast, BANG! She hit only a few yards from shore! The fight was short but she managed to take some drag before I pulled her in! Measured 18" and weighed 3lbs 5oz on my Berkley scale which is a new PB for smallies for me! Here's a pic.

I will be getting my MD license in January sometime.  I will be down.

Is that a threat speedbead???

Hitting the heated water in January worked very well for me this year. Was there earlier this week but water was up and murky from all the rain, didn't have much luck at all. Once it gets a little colder the smallies should move into the heated water areas.

Basser, commented in Northeast section, but that is a nice smallie. After my lack of success this week I am jealous.....  8-)

congrats on the bronze

Nice smallie man.

Me an some are my buds are gonna be fishin for some smallies this weekend, hope one of us can hook up one with that size.

That is a very nice fish, not as nice as mine but still a very nice fish.  If I had known you were working so hard for a nice smallie I would have invited you along with jake and me on our last couple trips to the river.  I'm sure that we could have made it a lot easier for you.  I remember from past trips you do not do so well with the rivers and the small mouth. ;)

Thanks everyone!

Come on down SPEED!

Funny one hutch!  :D   But I will admit, I have an easier time with the smallies on the Potomac than I do on the Juniata! But then, I also get to fish water deeper than 3' when I fish down here!  8-)

Nice.I cant wait till catch a Smallmouth.
