I just got back from visiting some family in Missouri and had the chance to do a bit of fishing in a couple farmpond's. One is my Aunt's pond which I was told only held catfish. No big deal. Fishin' is fishin'. So we got some nightcrawlers and gave it a shot. I caught a couple and decided on concentrating on getting some of the others some fish. Well, my mom was down the bank so I went over to hang out. I look down at her bobber and I saw the shape of a fish in the muddy water rise up. When it got closer to the bobber I saw that it was no catfish but a largemouth bass. After it pecked at the bobber, it went away. Game on! I rigged up a rod with a topwater frog and made a few casts in the area where that bass had come up. On about the fifth cast, WHOOOSH!!!! Fish on! After a short fight and on good jump, I lost it. I hooked into 2 others that night with the same results. I was a little dismayed, but at least I knew there were a few bass in there and what they liked. The next day I hit them again and this time landed two. Nothing huge, but lots of fun on the light tackle we had.

On another day I decided to throw a senko during mid-day to see if I could coax another one. Meanwhile, my step-daughter took the other pole to the other end of the pond. She proceeded to bait her hook and cast it out. Not 2 minutes later, she's screaming "I got one, I got one!" I drop my rod and run over just in time to see her drag a nice catfish onto the bank. This is her biggest fish to date.

After releasing the fish, I go back and get my rod to take back over and hang out in the area she was fishing. I cast out my senko right along the shoe and about 5 feet from the bank my line just takes off. After a solid hookset and a short fight, I land another largie.

The other pond that I got to fish was a very special trip for me and my cousin. This pond was on a piece of property that was owned by our grandmother who had sold it and has since passed. Neither of us had fished it since we were teenagers. So we head out at about 2 pm. I didn't have much hope due to the heat, but on the first cast something tapped my senko. I set the hook on the fish and brought in the biggest bluegill I have ever caught.

My cousin was trying all sorts of things and had just changed again to a small crankbait. This made fishing difficult since the whole pond was surrounded by a layer of matted moss and grass. Nonethless, he hooks and lands a nice largie.

All together, we hauled in 6 fish in about an hour and a half. We will be back. A couple more pics from that pond.

That evening we return to the pond. It's definitetly topwater time. I rig up a frog and give it a toss. Just as it gets to the weed edge, I get a strike and land a bass. A couiple minutes later, my cousin lands a nice crappie on his crankbait. These fish were even strikeing through the matted moss but a good foot behid the the lure. So I would pitch it just beyond where it struck and slowly "hop" the frog along. 9 times out of ten, the fish would strike again. By the time we left, we had landed another 10 fish. This was by far the most fun I have had fising in a very long time. Not only because of the awesome action, but fishing the family's old farm with my family. I can't wait go back there. Sorry for the long post, but I hope y'all enjoyed the story.

I had a ball when I went to MO, fished out of my friends pond.  Every cast, we caught weell over 100 bass in a few hours.

Cool, Pics make me home sick. I'm not that far away, but the country is a lot different here.
