todays outing.

Featured Replies

went out today for a couple hours with the new fenwick in hopes to hook into something with some scrap....well i did.

cast a weightless BPS cut tail to a rock right along the drop off. right away the line moves sideways. i set the hook and my line snaps. eh , my fault. no biggie.

cast again to the same spot , same bait , different color. again , the line moves to the right a few seconds after it hit the water. i set the hook....my drag is screaming. i thought i hooked into a carp or a pretty good pea. shes heading straight to the deep , so im keeping the tip up to keep my line from getting chewed up on the steep drop off and shes still taking line like its her job. so we go back and fourth for at LEAST a minute. probably the longest fight ive ever had from a LM. i finally get her in...

big. i immediately go for the tape measure and realize i left it home. so i snap the pic and quickly get her back in the water. she looked exhausted.

took a little bit but she swam off fine.

went around to the west side of the lake and was trying everything to get a peacock to bite but they wernt taking what i offered. i tied a 1/16oz finesse jig with a headless 4" lizard and hopped that up one side of drop off and got this one..

i left shortly after that. my arms were beat!

the rod did fantastic. it has enough backbone to keep those fish up and out of the weedy mess on the bottom. it very comfortable to fish with. that handle is just fantastic. i was casting the weightless 4" cut tails into a 5-8mph wind without a problem.

:)

Those are some nice fish and I imagine a blast to catch on that rod. I'm very jealous.

What pound test were you using?

i want to replace that little trout image they got on the rod with a peacock bass  ;D 8-)

im using 20/6 fireline with 6# cxx leader.

I can't wait to get an L/UL setup and catch some pigs like that. Seems like it's so much fun.

thanks guys. pics were shot with a camera phone. i make sure i keep it right on top of all the crap in my pocket so i can quickly grab it lol.

the rod was excellent during the fight. while it was pretty much doubled over for most of the fights , its did have backbone to bring em in. transition from the tip to the bottom 1/3 was butter smooth but slower than im used to. it is a light rod so horsing fish out of slop is a no-go, but if you can keep em away from that mess , youre golden.

while i was 'high-sticking' the fish up over the drop off , the rod showed no strain or anything indicating it wouldnt make it. i did have my drag set a touch lighter than i usually do because i wasnt sure how it would handle , but it did fantastic. im sure smaller fish , panfish and trout would be a blast and a pleasure to fish for with this rod.
