Musky sized spinnerbaits for Largemouth?

Featured Replies

When I walk down the muskie and pike isle at mills fleet farm I always stop and look at the northland and joe bucher big spinners(saftey pin style) and wonder how well these would work for lmb. I fish allot of smaller lakes that the water clarity is stained to heavy stain and thought a bigger profile would get noticed better. Most of these spinners are at least an ounce in weight if not a little more but have nice big blades on them. Would it be worth getting one or just stick to the 1/2 oncers I have? Thanks.

the bigger baits will work, i no this. smaller bulldog, meps an ten an 11 inch jerk baits will work. but theres a catch. a lot casting an time with nothing

I throw some 2 and 3 oz Musky spinnerbaits with a huge treble hidden in the feathered trailer and have had Smallmouths engulf the entire treble.  so there is no reason why a big Largemouth could not do the same thing.

I have caught my biggest lmb of the year on a musky/pike spinnerbait. Truth is, I WAS fishing for pike since the season wasn't open (muskies neither) and a chunky 7lb'er smacked it real good....and that was after I just boated a few larger pike.

Keep in mind that here in Canada, 5lb largies are considered good sized fish and that more likely than not, when throwing oversized spinnerbaits for lmb, you'll hook up with a musky or pike a few times before a big enough bass gets a chance to hit.

I have caught some nice bass on muskie fishing with big spinnerbaits but I think the biggest bass spinnerbaits like ledge busters are about the biggest size you really need.  ;) There are muskie spinnerbaits that size that work good for bass.

I dont know if a 1oz ledgebuster is Muskey or not but they have cought me some really nice fish.  Smallmouth and Largemouth.

I read an article in a book wrote by Babe Winkleman that said he caught some really giant largemouths on musky sized spinnerbaits. He said it was the deal that he got quality and not quanity. So if your looking to catch some giants then getting a few may be useful.

I still have a few of the original Roland Martin Big Bass spinnerbaits by Blue Fox and they do catch big bass, smaller ones too.

I have caught some hawgs throwing an M&G tandem for musky.

I bought a 1oz spinnerbait from SOB lures, and have caught some nice fish on it.  Surprisingly, I've caught smaller fish (1.5lbers) on these big lures as well, sometimes they've gone after the big boy lures.
