TRITONBOATS Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 what can you use to find out when bad weather is coming for you. I get stuck in bad weather all the time and I am getting tired of it. I heard Radio Shack makes a portable weather station but would it work for me? Quote
Nick_Barr Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 find a book which is called Largemouth bass which is made by scientific anglers it shows you the cloud formations and what they mean and whats ahead and how good the weather is going to be also it might be on the internet Quote
Mainer Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 I'm not sure exactly what you mean by bad weather, are you talking about safety, or comfort? If you are talking about safety, a storm big enough to cause problems should be noticed by the folks that watch those things early enough for you to plan arond it. If you fish big water, a weather radio may be a very good idea. If you are talking comfort, it may be a good idea just to carry rain gear. I try to keep good gear, including a waterproof wide brim hat in my boat. Quote
jbh3 Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 Go here http://www.weather.com/weather/local/ type in your zip code. The result is current weather conditions with radar for your area. Book mark the URL and check before you leave for the lake. Always take a rain suit! Quote
squid Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 I think Glen hit it on the head....just watch the weather channel prior to going out. Seems simple to me...lol Quote
tritonman Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 As I age, I never go out on the lake anymore without raingear. I have gone out in the morning clear as a bell and then by 11:00 it is pouring rain for 20 min. then sun again. It's always best to go prepared. Quote
squid Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 Yep with age...lol He melts when he gets wet. We learned that when they say chance of rain is 20%...with our luck it will be 100% It always rains on us if there is a small chance of it...lol Quote
scbassin Posted January 26, 2005 Posted January 26, 2005 I know what you mean. I have been caught on the lake when a thunder storm came out of nowhere. I carry a handheld VHF radio in the boat. It has the weather station on it & will beep me when the weather is changeing so I can get the update. Most of the guides carry them & have base stations so if I get in trouble & have to get to safty in a hurry I can let someone know where I am at. They are a good investment. If you fish on big water don't leave home without one. Quote
Zaraspooker Posted January 29, 2005 Posted January 29, 2005 Bad weather? What is that? lol. Rain gear is a good thing to have but I only put that on in the good weather. I <3 rain. Quote
