I cant even catch one!

Recommended Posts

Okay i got a huge problem. I go out fishing alot and I have alot of patience, but i just cant catch a single fish. Last time I caught one was probably 3 weeks or so ago! Caught them on GULP sinking minnows. Anyways im throwing spinnerbaits, rapala jointeds, jigs(dont know how to work em properly), Buzzbaits, Frogs, Senkos, Kinami Flash, and lizards. Nothing is working. I fish ponds and fish from the shore. One pond hass alot of algae on top. One has alot of weeds in one spot and the last one is alot of open water and very shallow. Any responses would be appreciated.

What is the water temp that could effect how aggressive these fish are feeding.  Also try different colors when bass bite slow my personal favorite lure is a texas rigged worm.  Also were you reeling in fast or slow? That could also make a difference.

Good Luck Fishing!

ill say temp is 55-60, this is averaging temps from the week. I am working it slow, the thing i cant get the hang of with a texas rig is hopping the bait, ill hit a snag and set the hook and sad to say no fish!

Fish here anyways are deeper too.

Maybe it's that?

I have been getting skunked right now too...from the shore anyways.

I fish a small pond all the time under similar conditions.  It's very weedy and I almost always have to use something weedless.  I have very good luck with a 4" senko weightless and weedless.  I use a 2/0 Red EWG Gammy hook.  I usually use a green pumkin and sometimes use a 5", but the 4" seems to work better.  After a rain, I have had good luck using a white  with black specs 4".  The only other lure I use is a Fat Ika fished the same way.  It's an excellent bait by Yamamoto that the Warrior told me about.  I let them both sink to the bottom on slack line and then raise the rod tip and let it settle again.  Good Luck!

Powerbass- how deep are the ponds?  Have you caught fish in them before?  How many?  TONS??  If you have fished these ponds before and had great days...like over 10 fish in a couple of hours then I would roll up my sleeves and keep doing what you are doing.....trying to get a strike via different methods etc.  If you are not all that familar with these ponds and have caught a few here and there and they were all small fish then the pond could be the problem not you.

Good luck to you!

One thing that I tried over the weekend that might help.  Try drop shottin.  Set your sinker low enough so that you are just over the weeds and dangle a small plastic bait in front of the fish.  Caught four in a heavily pressured pond like this in about 45 minutes yesterday.  You will need a small hook (Gamagatsu finesse - 1/0).  Just fish it slow and don't worry about the gorilla snot you pull up from the bottom.

You can't catch bass in a pond that has no fish. The baits you have been using should have produced some fish. Look for a different pond. Ideally the pond should be at least four years old and professionaly stocked.

If you are going to stick it out a little longer on the water you are fishing, focus on just one presentation until you catch some fish. I am NOT saying that a Senko is the only thing that catches fish, but if you can't catch a single fish on a Senko, the problem is probably the pond.
