Spinnerbait trailer?

Featured Replies

What do you guys use as a trailer on your spinnerbaits?

Last season a used a twin tail grub...but I just randomly put it on there and was wondering what the right trailer is...or atleast what others use.

My favorite is a zoom jr.super fluke and I also like small swim shad bodies. This kind of trailer must be rigged PERFECTLY straight however, and I use a drop of glue usually.

A good thumping grub can be used to put off extra vibration. If I use a double tail grub I usually rig it with the tails up and down.

I also have been known to use the tails from spent 6-7 inch worms, jig chunks, tubes, sizmic toad bodies, flying lure bodies ;)

Most people use the slender twin tail trailers. They work fine,I just like to tinker with the trailer and don't get me started on all the crap I've stuck on the back of a chatterbait. ;D

Remember though that too big of a tail or trailer can cause the bait to roll because of the extra resistance. If it rolls then it is either too big or not rigged straight.

When using a trailer on a spinnerbait I usually use a trailer hook when in tournaments.

Or, I will add a plastic.

*** has spinnerbait trailers.

Russ *** says to up-size your spinnerbait blade size in lieu of adding a trailer. He also discuss using Gitzit's and other trailers.

In other words, there is no "one" spinnerbait trailer you can use.

Google spinnerbait trailers and read about them, especially what Russ *** has to say.

Just keep chucking those suckers!!!!  ;)

After using War Eagle and the new Strike King spinnerbaits with the longer tails on the skirt I don't bother with trailers much.  When I do  my favorite is a 3 to 4 curly tail or a split tail.  Caught a lot of fish on these over the years.

One hint when using these is put a drop of super glue on them so they don't slide down the hook all the time.

BPS double tail Cajun Trailer, or single curl tail grub.

In clear water, match color to skirt, in stained or dark water add some contrast.

I'd say 95% of the time I find myself not using a trailer bait, I always like to use a trailer hook though.

Although when I do use a trailer on a spinnerbait its usually either a single tail grub, or a yum boogie tail trailer (for a good price you get a bag of 20).

Mr. Twister original curly tail grub  3" or 4".  Started out using the three inch version.  It worked well.  Tried the four inch version and it worked better.

Color preference, chartreuse with flake, pumpkin, and purple, in that order.

Was it due to the larger size, or a different day?  Don't know, but I've stayed with the larger size.  Having said that, when fishing resumes around here, I'm going to try stepping up to the six inch version.

single tail grub. usually when muddy (chartreuse) or in the fall when shad are large (white, smoke). tail down when using trailer hook.

Usually a 3" curl tail grub. I also use a 2" curl tail grub on Stike King Mini Kings.
