Jig & drop shot combination

Featured Replies

I read somewhere that some people use a jig instead of a weight for drop shotting.  I suppose that makes sense - it's like fishing with a jig and drop shotting at the same time.

Is that legal and do many of you do that?

Thanks

It should be legal (Might check your states/tourney regulations), and although I have heard about people doing that I usually don't. If I loose as many jigs as I do weights than thats going to add up quickly. I have also heard about people using jigs as a Carolina Rig weight.

I know a lot of pro's use a jig as a carolina rig weight but I'm not sure about the drop-shot.

Why wouldn't it be legal?  ???

I often use a jig as a drop shot weight as it allows me to cover two sections of the water column.  It is legal, but you need to check before you use it in a tournament, as some tourneys have rules against multiple lure rigs.

One important piece of advice if you do this though, be very carefuly when you tie the palomar knot to the drop shot worm.  If you fray the tag end, then the jig connection will be weak.

I think it is called a "Bubba Shot" rig or something like that.

That's how I do it and it is legal. It works great. I use a Spot Remover Jig at the bottom.

I've never done it, but one of my partners has and it works pretty good. He's caught 'em on the soft plastic and jig. The jig doesn't work to well if your fishing heavy grass cause you'll catch alot.

in michigan, drop shotting is illegal, so all of us up here, tye a jig on to the bottom of our line and drop shot that way so its legal
