More than just basic colors

Featured Replies

Is anyone using any out of the ordinary colors, beyond the common spectrum of watermelons, junebugs and red shads? For me I've relied on 3 colors that have been outstanding for the past couple of years.

1-RoadKill Camo and any variation that includes it Ex- Freshkill

2-Mudpie- I don't know what it is exactly roadKill with orange maybe?

3- Green Pumpkin Brown Candy. Ok, a brown hue of Green Pumpkin which is a total killer, add a little green and purple flake and it's insane.

What do you guys use.

ew77,

I use stock colors. I will say though, after seeing some of your lures on e-bay, I might be using some custom colors next spring!

Honestly guys, if you want some custom colors, check out earthworm77's profile on e-bay. He has some of the nicest colors I have ever seen.

1)Roadkill- is a color I picked up on last year that has been productive for me.

2)Margarita- is another odd color that I started using last year that is a great color.

3)baby diaper color- this is a weird color I have used for the past 3 years Roadwarrior likes it too. Its a yellow rootbeer color.

1. Baby Diaper Yellow: As Chris said, killer color for some reason. #1 smallmouth producer is a 3" Gitzit in baby diaper yellow.

2. Black Neon: Black with red flakes. The Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo tube in black neon was a hit with big largemouth this year.

3. Clear with gold, silver & black: This is the color a friend of mine used to catch the largest bass I have ever seen in person, alive or mounted. The bass was caught on a 5" Senko, #326 at the Secret Pond, the first time I ever fished there in June 2005.

Still waiting for someone to make an earthworm colored senko.

Still waiting for someone to make an earthworm colored senko.

That would be nice...also, I've never seen a senko that looks like the slugs around here, brownish-green with black spots

I pour a reaper that I use on the dropshot that has a light watermellon green back poured with a light, almost baby blue body/tail.  This has done real well for me in clear water.

I use some odd colored worms. some are black with light purple, almost pink swirls. The others are yellow with a green back with black spots. (kind of ugly, but super cool) Also, i think my rainbow colored tubes are pretty effective too.

I don't know all the names of the colors I use.  I just look at them and if they look good I buy them.  They mostly fall into the brown or green family of colors.  The senko that I find works best is the red/blue laminate.  If I had one color to choose for all my soft plastic work it would be pumpkin seed.

Infection-brown,black and smoke blend (Reaction Innovations)

Grasshopper-brown,green and pearl blend (Wave)

Peanut butter 'n' jelly-sort of a brown-grape mix (ZOOM) getting hard to find this color,we need to see more of it......hint,hint ew,  ;)

Another thing about color is that I love to play around with my dyes, paint pens and dips.  I'm always changing or modifying the colors on my lures.  I have done this with cheap baits, vintage baits, and yes even lucky craft and megabass baits.  I think all this high tech paint jobs are very pretty but they are so subtle and textured that they loose some of the strike triggers that get the bass to bite.  I admit that not all my modifications work but many of them do.  Also, I just love to do it, it's alot of fun and after all, ain't fun what it's all about?
