I have the week off and made plans for fishing on day during the week. Right now it looks like it will be raining all day with the high of 52 degrees. I fish from the bank. Does anyone have any good tactics for fishing in this kind of weather or am I better off staying home?

Where do you live at and what type of lake is it you're going to be fishing?

Fishing this time of year can be painfully slow.

2 key questions above but the rain should only help your efforts as long as you can tolerate it.

I don't mind fishing in the rain its lightning that I don't like. There is a pond I fish all the time from shore that I still use many of the same lures in that I use in a boat. Top on my list on rainy days is a spinnerbait. Go with chartreuse or black color single blade. (To be honest most lures will work but I start with a spinnerbait)

Lotsa variables to think about there, hop.  The best I can tell you now is stay away from the surface plugs...c-rigged worms (maybe with a little tear-drop spinner) or anything that's flashy and makes noise.  That is, unless the water is absolutely clear (but that is a rareity in the rain), in which case I would try t-rigging a tube.

I love to fish on the rain. But I haven't done much at 50 degrees. My best producers have been a very shallow crank and a spinnerbait run just under the surface. The rain on the water's surface diffuses the already low light and brings the fish up in the water column, making a shallow presentation a good option. The 50 degree conditions will probably alter the equation a bit. Maybe a shallow running jerkbait or a fluke would do well. Or possibly a small spinnerbait with bigger blades to provide more lift and allow a slower, shallow running presentation.

When fishing in the rain, I use a pair of kitchen gloves with the fingers cut off. You know the type. They are what your wife uses when she cleans the oven. Or the kind you use to clean the oven if she has you properly house-broken. I get one size too small for a snug fit. Helps keep the hands drier.

Had the best luck in the rain with spinnerbaits (single blade) and rattletraps.

How hard sill it be raining? With just a drizzle, i like using buzzbaits, and super flukes. This happened just a little while ago. It might have been about 45 degrees, and there was a small amount of rain, but the water was ultra clear. Caught 5 bass from shore on a super fluke fished shallow and fairly fast. On a heavy downpour, use double colorado or tandem style spinnerbaits.

Most of the year down here in Florida fishing in the rain is really productive.  Even now when the picks up and the rains come it will turn the bass on.  Problem is when it's 50 degrees outside my florida bones get quite a chill.  I'll fish but when the rains come at this temp, well thats Miller time for me.  

dont miss a good oppertuntiy get out here and fish.  like a few have said before me, start witha  spinnerbait then move to a ratltrap.  my best days fishing are in the rain.  hope you have gore tex!

I see where some of you shy away from surface lures when fishing in the rain. Some of my best fishing has been to fish a small popper under low overhanging tree branches during a light rain. An old man taught me that years ago. He said that, especially in the spring, the rain will knock bugs off the leaves and into the water. He said that Bass learn quickly how to get an easy meal. This only works during a light summer shower. It has not produced for me during downpours.

I love these "old man" stories.  There is so much to know about fishing that it takes a lifetime - No - several lifetimes to learn it all.  Fishing with, or just talking fishing with and ole timer is worth it's weight in gold.  

Another good place to try a top water plug is where ground water is running into the lake.  Bugs can get washed in that way.
