but it was in the 90's sunny not a cloud in the sky on the deck of my flat bottom tryin to carve it out takes a lot of of ya needed a few rest breaks lol

i recall seeing something to do with a piece of string wraped around the hook but cant rember how u do this

any help would be great

Hooks from a crankbait are not the best subject for the line removal method. A critical part of this type of hook removal is maintaining control of the hook shank. The shank must be parallel to the point of the hook. If you have sufficient shank to do this do the following.

Using a strong piece of line take a couple of wraps around the u-bend portion of the hook. Use sufficient length to be able to takes a couple of wraps around your hand with the line. With hooked individual holding the shank portion so that it is parallel, remove the hook with one sharp movement. It is a relatively painless and clean removal. Remember, shank control is extremely important as you don't want the hook to roll as you remove it.

Relatively painless........

I think that George meant: it 's going to hurt like mad !.....for a few seconds if you do it right otherwise ....

The other day me and a buddy of mine were in a boat pretty far from the truck. He hooked a bass and hooked himself in the back of the hand down past the barb right up against a big vein with the fish still attached.    Thankfully we got it out without any problems. I now keep a Pair of side cuts and bandages with me at all times while fishing.

We were at least 45 min. from a hospital.  What is the proper thing to do in this situation?

Yes there is away with the string but thats not for treble hooks just the hooks with 1 hook thingy:)

I once was playing with a fish lure when i was like 8 and got it stuck in my leg. My dad used a fillet knief cut my skin wwere the barb was and took it out. If you can make clean cuts you wont feel the kneif. Just some people get skuirmish and dont like the fact that a kneif is in them so they make ther body feel like its in pain...

On trebles I've cut the hook with as much shank left as possible with wirecutters and pushed it the rest of the way through and out. This doesn't work all the time. I had one in my finger last year and couldn't push it through because of the bone. I had to cut along side it and pull it back out. Dang thing was sore all summer too. Right where you grip the rod handle.

i was fishing w/a buddy of mine at bulls island, off the coast of charleston.  i stuck a bang o lure treble hook in my left index finger DEEP!  ...the fish was still on the lure & he helped drive it down to the bend.

the bad thing about fishing there is that you can only enter & exit on high tide, so, we had a five hour wait.

..after "nipping" around the edges w/knife, i got my buddy to tie my hand securely to my leg, tie a loop around the hook, & then told him to "PULL IT OUT!" ...well, he was chicken & couldn't do it.  ..finally, i just reached a conclusion that it had to come out, i had to do it by myself, so, i took my knife & sliced my finger in one quick stroke - past the hook.  i removed the hook, but, today, the finger is not as wide at the nail as my other fingers & the scar runs almost to the first joint.

it was a terrible thing to have to do to myself, & if i had to do it over today, i'd just cut the hook off at the bend & leave it in til i could get to a doctor.

The string deal as described above works like a charm.  My fishing partner pulled the string while I held the barb down, it popped right out.  I have had one taken out at the hospital.  They pull the hook through so the barb is showing, cut the barb off, and then pull the hook out, without the barb it slides right out.  For those of you who like to perform surgery on yourself, try this method, it may be less painfull!!

I went to my uncle's house to see him and my grandparents. When we got there my aunt said they were at the hospital getting a hook out of my grandma's hand. Apparently she tried fly fishing and got the fly stuck in her hand. My uncle offered to try and get it out but she said lets just go to the hospital. They made a little cut and got it out. I think the best thing if you get a hook stuck is go to the hospital if its deep. But if you arent close to a hospital just do the string things. Another reason i wear sunglasses on the boat so my friends' poor hooksets wont hook my eyes. I think at bass pro they sell a hook removal kit. Yup, here it is http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=52861&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults
