  1. I have a Lowrance LCX-25 unit and a new HD8 unit. I am trying to transfer my waypoints from the LCX-25 to the HD8. I have downloaded the waypoints from the old unit but can't seem to get the waypoints to display on the new unit. Do I just put the chip with the waypoints in the unit and it should automatically read it, or do I need to initiate a download. If so How? Thanks
  2. You'll have a great time. Get to the launch area (not just the area, the ramp!) and you'll get to talk with the pros and get some great pictures. Try both times, the launch and the load. I went a couple of years ago, great event. Sure gets you fired up for the upcoming season. Have fun!
  3. Early spring, pre spawn, seems to be the most difficult time for fishing, speaking for myself anyway. Here in the midwest, first of the year tournaments usually start about mid march, with water temps around 46 - 50 degrees. Each year the scenerio plays out the same, me and my partner run and gun with rattle traps and crankbaits (baits we typically only fish in spring), sometimes doing well but more times not. Each year I tell myself I'm going to hit main lake points, throw a jig, and fish it slow. By doing this surely I can get 5 bites! But I always resort to the run and gun. What are some early season patterns that of done well for you readers?
  4. The zoom trick worm is a huge producer for me. In the spring I throw it weightless, usually texas rigged. When the fish move out I use it on a 1/8oz shakey head. Can't beat the price/quantity. Green pumpkin most of the time. I plan on trying it on a drop shot a little this year
  5. Dog days of summer, 85-95 degrees. Throwing jigs and large worms to wood on offshore break lines. Just above the thermocline This is where the big ones are.
  6. I am in the process of purchasing a new fishfinder. Like many people on here I am researching both the Lowrance with side scan and the Humminbird Si units. The posts on here have been very helpful. My question here is whether or not the new Lowrance HDS units can share gps data with the older units. The one currently on my boat is a LGx-25. I did run the data cable when I installed the unit, just curious if a new HDS is compatible with this. If anyone wants to chime in on Lowrance vs Humminbird thats fine. While I have had no problems with my Lowrance products I am leaning toward the Humminbird 898
  7. This really wasn't an ethics question about whether it was O.K. to fish beds or fish guarding fry, but thanks for your comments. A "Fluke," thanks Frog!
  8. Hey, Coming up from the blugrass state this week-end for some fishing. I am somewhat familiar with the lake but understand the water is still a little high. Anyone having any success here that would be willing to share some tips. Thanks!
  9. Five baits would actually be a lot for me! 1. 10" Red shad worm 2. Punkinseed Zoom Trick Worm 3. Jig - Natural Color with twin tailed grub 4. 1/4 oz Chatterbuzz 5. Excaliber Fat Free Shad. Citris
  10. I am curious as to what are some of your favorite (most productive) fishing techniques, as well as baits, used when trying to catch fish that are guarding fry. As well, what are some which have proven unsuccessful.
  11. Hey, I thought about giving my boat a good cleaning over the menorial day week-end. What kind of wax do you guys use on your fiberglass boats. Do you think using the same wax (Turtle Wax) I use on my car would be O.K?
  12. Good informations guys, Thanks!
  13. With out a doubt a plastic worm. But a jig with a crawl trailer would be a close second.
  14. Here locally we have been having some cool nights, getting down in the 40's at night. Along with the cool nights we have had a lot of rain. So in the past week I have seen a surface temp. change on our lake by 6-8 degrees and the level rise by about 3-4 ft. The fishing has slowed to a halt, any suggestions? Current water temp about 60 - 62 degrees. I would guess probably 75% of the fish have spawned
  15. I am sure this topic has been covered numerous times but I would like to open it anyway. I am curious how most of you operate your live wells to maintain good health of fish in tournaments. Currently me and my partner turn on the live well pumps and pump fresh water into the well all day, with out shutting it off. Our fish are always kicking when we pull them out. How do you feel this would compare to filling the well and then simply aerating the well? Any of you use additives, (reguvenate)?
  16. I have caught the majority of my quality fish on either a jig or a large worm. However, I must admit that these are the baits I primarily throw. To date my largest fish was caught on a rattle trap.
  17. You can right off any expenses you incured in fishing, even your boat. I usaully just take off enough to cover my winnings so I don't have to pay any taxes.
  18. I think it is great to have a passion for something in life. I share your passion for fishing, specially if in competition. Just be careful not to let that passion cause you to neglect your responsibilties, or other people, in your life. So FISH-ON!!
  19. FHS maps are very usefull. I have both the traditional maps and maps loaded in my GPS. There probably are some discrepancies, but for the most part they are a real asset.
  20. Right now I only get ESPN, so my favorites would be Bass Masters Elite Coverage, and "Day on the Lake." I think "Day on the Lake" is one of the better shows to have come out in a while. I really miss Schooled be Denny B" I wish they would being that one back. Charlie Moore is pretty funny, but I can't even call this a fishing show anymore.
  21. I would like to get some opinions from some of you tournament fishermen about some of the technology being used in tournaments today. A few years back we saw the arrival of the GPS, which for most, has made finding hot spots easier to locate on open water. While I have and use one, I do feel it has lessened the art of being able to locate and get on hotspots with only a depth finder, an advantage I feel I used to have. The latest being the side imaging made by hummingbird. I've seen it work and its quite impresive. But I'm not sure I'm excited about its arrival. I guess my question is do you feel we are going to lose the art of fishing as we know it through these devises, or only change it I don't want to see a day when we can drop a device in the water and say, "O.K, I'll catch this one and you get that one over there".
  22. If I'm fishing deep or stained water I will use black/blue. Otherwise I like to keep with natural colors. Having too many colored baits gives me way too many options, I would drive myself crazy deciding on which one!
  23. With out a doubt a t-rigged 10" plastic worm. Casting a jig would be second. Both on deep water structure. In the spring I'm flipping on the shore. Man I've got to get off this forum, its moving slower than it ever has tonite, must be alot of people on. Catch you guys another evening.
  24. Bassin Blvd That is a nice rig, who is the manufacturer of that plastic crawl. Man it looks good.
  25. Hey fisherdave, Good purchase, jigs are great baits. While I have never trimed the length of my jig weed guards, I do on occassion thin the thickness of the guard by trimming some of the bristles back to the jig head. I only do this if I feel the guard is too rigid and may hamper a good hook set.
