  1. I have had great success on a local lake durring summer nights. Its different and much fewer anglers are on the lake at this time. I hang a flourecent light ( for visability) over the side of my boat and throw a large worm to cover on the bank. I believe a darker worm is best, I typically use a red shad. I have had several nights when I caught 15 - 20 bass. Give it a shot
  2. I have noticed the bass I've been catching this spring have alot of red on the edges of their mouths. If bass had lips it would be in this area. Me and my partner thought this may be do to increased feeding activity do to warming of waters. Perhaps foraging in rocks for crawdads? Anybody make this same observaton?
  3. Happy Spring Fellow Fisherman, I start the 2006 tournament season this week-end. I did some prefishing last week-end and caught a couple cranking in a bout 5 foot of water next to channel banks. The lake I am fishing is in the midwest, water temp was about 48 degrees. We have had alot of rain this week and the temp has come up. I am anticipating water temps between 50-52. I also expect the areas I fish (creek fed arms) to be muddy. Being this time of year would you advise I get out of the muddy areas and head to the main lake. What is your experience? Baits and colors to use in cold muddy water?
  4. Stumps are definitely your go to target. Shallow, deep, in the water, stickng out of the water. In the spring there is nothing like pitching a jig or trickworm next to a stunp and have a big moma inhale it! In the dead of summer I fish break lines lined with stumps and find them VERY productive. The stumps are your friend!! But keep your motor out of them.
  5. Mine was 7.5 lbs. Caught in Indiana during prespawn on a rattle trap.
  6. I really enjoy bass saturday. This time of year is when I'm able to catch the shows. As spring nears I am usually fishing. I do hate to hear Schooled by DB and loudmouth bass were cancelled. I was hoping they were awaiting a new season. Are you guys sure its cancelled? The first few times I saw charlie moore I didn't care for it, but I've seen a few more and guess its OK. I hope the next time his wife fishes with him its in sunny, warm weather, if you know what I mean. As far as the Fishing Hole, well you've got to love that, that show has been on since I was a kid.
  7. Bassmaster and Bass'in are both great magazines.
  8. Crossfisher, For the same reasons as above use dark colors for stained water and natural for clear. Make sure it is the water clarity that is making it dark or clear. Many waters appear dark do to the bottom layer of sediment, specially in the extreme north. Get in the habit of defining water as stained or clear. Water becomes stained mostly from suspended sediments which have washed into the water and algea. Judging water clarity will not only alter your color selection but as you become a more experienced fishing alter how you fish.
  9. I usually work a jig or plastic worm on the edge. This is where bass tend to hold. Depending on water depth and cover I will throw a crank bait to cover some of the flat. Stumps line many channels and are great for bumping crank baits into. Plastic worms are still my favorite though. Good Luck!
  10. 7.5 lb largemouth this spring on a shad colored strike king diamond shad. (rattle trap)
  11. Save yourself a trip to the doctor and try this. I have had it performed on me twice. The person hooked needs to push down on the hook oposite the side of the barb. Your partner needs to run heavy test line through the "J" end of the hook, holding each end of the line with each hand. While pushing down on the hook, your partner will pull with a quick jerk, popping the hook out. It is critticle to push down on the hook so the barb does not catch on your skin when popping the hook out. My partner has forearms the size of my legs, I will admit the first time he talked me into trying this I was afraid the hook would stick and he would rip a hole in my arm, but it popped right out and we went back to fishing.
  12. I like all of the yum products. Price is probably what lured me to this stick bait over the Senko. I do beleive the Dingers hold up better too. As far as catching fish I beleive both are about the same. I do prefer the 4" over the 5" dinger. I don't really beleive the hook slot is worthy of boasting, but it certainly can't hurt. Happy Fishing
  13. Bass Saturday on ESPN is great. I usually have to tape it though because I'm fishing. I really enjoyed Denny Brauer's show. He must be tapeing new shows right now because he is no longer on. I saw Charlie Moore for the first time this week-end--not impressed. Great commercials, specially the one where the guys cloths fly off teswting is new outboard!!
  14. We are about to enter the post spawn period in our area. Or at least we are somewhere between spawn and post spawn. Just looking for some suggestions of some techniques or baits that have worked in the past for you guys. What if fry are present and how does this alter what you throw?
  15. There is a good variety of plastic trailers for jigs. Colors, shapes, and sizes. Plastic is so much easier to work with, less messy. I have heard many like the pork in cold water. I have to keep a handle on the variety of baits I keep or I'll drive myself nuts trying to figure which is best to fish with. So as of right now, only plastic. Happy Fishing
  16. I agree Gobble, but natural selection such as what your refering to takes thousands of years. Most posts here are basically commenting on an individual fish becoming lure/technique wise, which may happen but I beleive it is limited.
  17. I think all have made some good points here. In my experience, if fishing shallow water and picking targets I prefer a light entry into the water. Sure I have had bass hammer a bait that made a big splash into the water, but more often I witness bass getting spooked. Again this is primarily in shallow water. In deep water I don't seem to be as concerned.
  18. Gobble, Did you get a turkey this year? I don't believe fish are getting any smarter and I still don't buy the theory that they become lure wise. As far as evolution (natural selection), this takes many years. I think it is quite safe to say bass will not get any smarter in our life times, they'll still be hitting plasic worms and jigs. By the way, have you ever seen a jig in the wild? LOL Happy Fishing

Hey Swampthing, I'll probably repeat some of the postings. Size 4 is a little big for the Senko, try a 2. Senkos are dense enough that they are very castible weightless. I get a lot of nibbles by smaller fish when I'm fishing a senko or trick worm. Because I got tired of setting my hook into logs and stumps from nibblers, I adjusted to only setting the hook when I could feel the weight of the fish on my line. Happy Fishing
  20. Raul, Not neccessarly "bold or brave", I quess I just enjoy flipping plastic. Plastics have been working great so far this year, 4 finishes in the top 6. I do some cranking in the early spring and dead of summer. I do admit one could benefit from being an avid cranker (chucker and winder). Happy fishing
  21. Yankee, This time of year, without a doubt I would flip some type of plastic (lizard, trick worm, craw). Hook it texas style to be weedless and don't add any weight. Bass have been eating up the trick worm lately for me. If you don;t get any hits try going to a light weight jig with some trailer, keep it small though. Good Luck
  22. Try fishing your plastics texas style and weightless. If the water is clear or fish are spawning, make sure you are using small dia. line and casting well ahead of your boat, so fish don't spook. If you still don't get bit, add a small weight and slow retreive.
  23. F.O.M., Here in Indiana fish can be eaten when taken from most lakes. However, the rivers and streams are quite poluted and the state has fish advisories on fish consumption. It seems when the water shed can be protected body o0f water remains quite clean. This is difficult to acheive with rivers , hence the polution with them. Could luck with your discusions with the kids, this is an important topic. David
