Fishin' Shows

Recommended Posts

Anyone have some no-doubt favorites?

We have seen them all, and I am not so excited about a few of the new ones.  How did that Charlie Moore character get a show by the way?

I always learned a lot from the In-Fisherman clan, and have always been amazed about how many species the Linder boys could master.  Yankees or not, those boys could fish.

I have to laugh about Roland.  My goodness, what can you say about that guy's ego.  Like him or not, the quality fish and different species he can catch is impressive.  Ever enjoy the one when he was complaining about being paired with President Bush in a tournament on Ray Scott's private lake because of the handicap they would be under due to the surrounding boats with secret service? *lol*

The guy that I use to love watching, back on old TBS every saturday was Orlando Wilson.  I liked his good ol' boy ways, he always fished public water and told you where he was, and attempted to teach what he knew in a humble way.  Wish that show was still on the air.  Anyone know what happened to old Orlando?

I would like to read your posts of top all-time favorites and your top all-time hate list.  I have a hunch that Roland and Bill Dance will find a slot in both catagories.  You have admit, watching Bill Dance with your little kid will get them excited to get on the boat with you.

As far as I know, Orlando retired after his show wasn't renewed.

Bill has always had a good show. I know, lots of people complain about his well-stocked private waters, but he's an engaging guy and is instructive.

Roland's clearly a great fisherman, but at times, his ego has raged so out of control, I've had to change channels.

Lindners have always put on good show, plus they're different--who else will teach you how to catch carp?

I watched Charlie Moore once. Not the stuff I'm interested in, but I can see how it would be entertaining to some.

Hank Parker I can take or leave, that show does nothing for me.

I don't dislike Shaw, but his high-pitched shrieks drive me crazy.

I can only find about 3 anymore.  One is done by a local tv channel and it is a pretty good show.  The problem is it comes on at like 6:30 on Tue. or Thru. mornings.  They have area pro's and lakes.  The shows are also shot very recently, a week or so, so it's not like watching ice fishing in July or fish spawning in Oct.  The other one is ole''''''''''''' Wal Mart  Charlie Pack, I guess he does alot of good stuff as far as fishing and kids, but his show is like Bill Dance in 30yrs.  The private lakes he fishes in around here are way over stocked, some of the owners require he keeps all the small fish,  I don't know how they get his boat in and out of some of them.  And most of his guests are employees or famly members of Wal Mart.  The other one is more on the extreame scale.  If you can afford to fish in South America for Peacock bass and hunt an endangerd species of Caribou in Greenland all on the same trip I guess it is pretty informative.

Honey Hole Magazine was an informative show, but it's in transition.  I alway liked watching Bill Dance get attacked by that goose, even though I never could find conditions to match his in angling.  The song from Fishing with Virgil Ward will stick in my mind till I sit in a slump and druel on myself.  I haven't seen Roland since (not that many fingers and toes).  In-Fisherman always seemed more geared for walleye fishing.  Now you know why I am alway tormenting ya'll.  Nothing to watch on tv.

The bassmaster and FLW tournament's are always fun to watch and bee able to see just how the pros are fishing. Then their is Bassmaster University which always gives lots of information and tricks.  Schooled by Denny Brauer was great, but I haven't seen it on tv lately, he would always point out what anglers where doing that was right or wrong.

with alot of fishing shows i get the feeling i'm just watching an infomercial about whatever they are using. roland martin has always been the worst. the older i get i see it alot in bill dance too. they're trying to sell their product, rather than teaching you new things.

i don't get that feeling from the in fisherman guys. to me, they have the most informative show.

I like Roland Martin's show the best because he fishes the same Florida lakes I do.   However, the last night I watched him do a saltwater show. He was Tarpon fishing off the Keys. They caught a few Tarpon, but they caught a lot more Nurse Sharks. Roland kept referring to them as just "sharks" and he was getting all excited about them.

Take it from me, I've caught Nurse Sharks and there's nothing exciting about them. It's like reeling in 75 lbs of dead weight off the bottom.  But I still like his show.  ;)

I like watching the shows that cover the tournaments.BASS and the FLW......those are the most informative to me because I fish tournaments also and you can pick up a pile of knowledge from watching those if you pay attention.

I will also watch In-Fisherman whenever I can, those guys can flat out catch whatever kind of fish they want, whenever they want to and they do a great job of explaining it to the audience.

Roland Martin's show is basically a 30 minute commercial about his sponsors which bores me to death. And Bill Dance fishes his little stocked lakes and private ponds.....anybody can catch bass from where Dance fishes. His show is no big deal but you do get to see some good quality bass.

Bass Saturday on ESPN is great.  I usually have to tape it though because I'm fishing.  I really enjoyed Denny Brauer's show.  He must be tapeing new shows right now because he is no longer on.  I saw Charlie Moore for the first time this week-end--not impressed.  Great commercials, specially the one where the guys cloths fly off teswting is new outboard!!

I like watching tournies- seems that nearly everything else is staged.  Every once in a while I get something usefull but like the points have been made- Bill Dance has his stocked pond, Roland has his infomercials...  Actualy I pick up more from some of the smaller shows.  There is a show they show here called "Fishing and Hunting Texas"  I picked up some sight fishing stuff from it....  I pick up a little here and there and on this sight....  maybe someday the fish will quit outsmarting me...

it took me a while to warm up to the linder boys when i first started seeing them. what do those yankees know about bass fishing?  but i couldn't deny their ability to catch all fish. if i could fish with one pro, i think it would be al linder. or kevin van dam.

I would definately have to say that In-Fisherman is my fave.  The Lindner's have also done a show called Lindner's Angling Edge which was a good show but I haven't seen but a couple of times.  But now I don't get to watch very many at all (us college boys can't afford fishing and cable tv).

Hey, and go easy on us "yankees," eh... ;)

Anyone remember Harold Ensley (Spelling!) - The Sportmens Freind?  He did both fishing and hunting on his show.  When I first watch his show, they were shooting it in 8mm camaras and Herold would narrate.  As I recall Harold and Sam Walton were good friends...

Virgil Ward, I can remember watching him, when I was just little kid.  Gone Fishin'... Instead of just a wishin'....

When I was in college I used to work for a small tackle manufacture, late 80's early 90's.  I can remember meeting and talking to most of these guys everyone  has talked about and a bunch of people behind the scenes.  There were so many crazy and silly things that went on behind the camaras....  and lots of things that they don't want you to know.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jimmy Houston. You don't learn a lot but he's funny to watch sometimes. I met him at a Basmaster University and he's a pretty down to earth and funny guy.

I liked Hank Parker too. He just seems like a cool guy.

My favorite new show is that Schooled by Denny Brauer.

I agree with everyone who like the BASS and FLW tournaments. I think they are the best to learn from if you are serious about fishing.

With the Outdoor Channel and the Outdoor Life Network (606 & 608 on DirecTV), there are no shortage of fishing shows. The great thing about Tivo is that you can record them all, then fast forward and/or delete what you don't want.

I like Classic Patterns, BassMaster University, & the tour shows the best.

Loudmouth Bass gets on my nerves. Why does ESPN have to try to make everything so controversial and dramatic, in fishing and every other sport? DON"T answer that, I know already, but it is still annoying.

It seems that Roland, Shaw, Fishing University, Strike King Pro Fishing Journal, and a couple of others seem to be pretty informative, but are always advertising a lure, hook, attractant, or something else to sell me. As long as you understand that I guess, then you can take away some information.

I have to saw i  like shaw, and Bill.  Im pretty sure i started fishing because of bill, and my father (but he dosent have a show, and if he did, it might be cancelled pretty quick).  Jimmy never did it for me, besides i dont like to kiss fish (kind of funky tasting).   In japan we have one show per day on fishing, however only 2 of them a strictly bass fishing.  Morizo Shimizu has a good show(2nd place in Alabama Bassmaster pro tour).   good on explaining  technique, but he favors a few baits, and often uses only those.  Japanese seem to really like larry nixon, hes ona few shows every now and then.
