Strike King 3x Baits

Featured Replies

Any fished these yet? I got a couple bags off ebay and they look awesome! They're made of some kind of "cyberflexx" junk that stretches like stretch armstrong! These things are nearly indestructible. I haven't tried em out in the water yet as it's too cold right now, but I did tie one on and gave it the yellow lab test. She was doin' back flips to get at it (it's heavily salted and garlic impregnated), and after chomping down on it and me tugging it out of her mouth it is no worse for wear. I can't even find any teeth marks on it! I'm curious to see how these are fairing in the water. Any info would be great. Oh by the way these things float like nobody's business so they ought to be great for carolina rigging.

I think you can find the same type baits under Terminator lures brand "snapback"

WARNING!!----Do not mix these baits with any other baits.....they will melt together and it is a BIG mess.

The biggest problem I have had with these baits is that occassionally when burying the hook point to make them weedless, I have had the hook not pop back out when setting the hook on a fish, causing me to miss it.  I will continue to use them when I want a bait to float up off the bottom, but be sure that you rig it so the point is barely under the skin.  Oh, and good luck getting it back off the hook.

Stew, the 3x baits work pretty good and I've got a bunch of bags of them, but I don't use them often because it seems like I have to keep pushing the head of the bait up over the eye of the hook after every cast, even if I use super glue to anchor it (which doesn't seem to stick the bait to anything but my fingers).  So how do you keep the lure from sliding down the hook after hiding the eye in the head?

Have you triede Owner hooks?

Haven't tried the Owners with them because I'm stuck on the VMC hooks since they have a deep bend between the eye and the hook shank instead of the straight-to-shank design like 90% of the hooks out there, but I'll pick up a bag of them and see how they work.  From your experience with these lures, what size do you use for most of the lizards and worms that 3x has?

The only 3x baits I use are the Zulu and Trick worm.  The Zulu is great when the fish want a fast retrieve when there sitting higher in the water column, and the trick worm whoops tail when you put it on a jighead and the fish are real active.  The tail sits straight up and every twitch makes it dart everywhere.

Like Hawgin, I've had some problems with the hook not going through the plastic.  I basically tex-pose it with the trick worm and have an exposed t-rig with the Zulu.

Aba- 3/0 or 4/0

Also, 2 ways to keep the bait from sliding dow, toothpick through the bait, eye and out the other side, trim toothpick and of course, super glue at the tip.

The pickerel bite here is crazy in the spring, we use the flukes (zero's?) w/ a toothpick and 1 bait can hold up to numerous pickerel.

Also, The 3X craw trailer is the only one I use.

I've been using them for years. My favorite is the lizard. It works great on a C-rig.I fish in places that are covered in grass, and the 3X lizard just floats above it.As for missing bites,I push the hook all the way through the body of the lizard and then just barely skin hook it.I've not had many problems missing bites using this method. The bait lasts forever.I still have bags of baits that I bought 3 years ago.One 3X lizard will go a long way.I also use the 3X Zero on the C-rig,drop shot rig,and weightless.I also use the 3X crawdad as a trailer on jigs.Gives it a different look. These baits work well on a splitshot rig, too.Skin hooking the bait will just about eliminate its only weakness, getting the hook through when you set the hook.

I can't freakin' wait to use these this spring. I fish weiss lake, alabama a lot and the crappie bite in the spring is legendary. Unfortunately we've got some crappie that will hit a bass plug, so you figure out how big that is! The problem is that sometimes you fish areas that hold both bass and crappie, and with other types of worms it's like fishing for piranhas! The crappie will short strike a 7.5 ripple tail worm until all you have left is a 4.5 inch finesse worm. Thus the benefit of the 3x baits!

I really like the shapes and action of their jig trailers and they will last forever. Always leave soft baits in seperate bags and always keep box closed (sun) so haven't had those problems.

Those are the only ones I've used. Other than those, I pretty much stick with (no pun intended) Zoom baits...

I can hear the groans (bad pun) all the way to Memphis

I use the Zulu flukes, the Zeroes, and the lizards.  I think these are good baits and they are economical as well.  I push the hooks all the way through and then skin hook them.  These do slide a bit on the hook shank, but if you push them up over the hook eye an 1/8 of an inch or a little more they'll usually stay up there for two or three casts.  You just have to check them often.  Sticking a toothpick through the bait and the hook eye, as suggested by LBH, is a good idea.

Thanks Hooker, I'll definitely give the toothpick through the bait & eye a try.  Sounds like a way to get rid of some of my 3x bags and my frustrations.

I use em on C rigs most of the time.

Their floating worm got me some nice fish both fished on surface among weeds / grass, and on c-ring.

But: Pay attention to what TexasBassPro said: Don't ever mix them with other plastics, or even their various colors. I know have some crazy looking multi-colored worms for mixing them in a rush and forgetting about them for a few days... Maybe the new "ultra-hot" color is just sitting besides me waiting to be used ;)...
