brook with several using crawfish

Featured Replies

I just started fishing a small pond in Connecticut. Nearby is a brook with several crawfish.

I set a trap last night and got about 20. I've never used them in this pond. Will they catch small mouths and pickeral??? Should they be hooked through the tail...with hook coming up through ???

This am caught 5 on YAMO'S.....................Also best time to use crawfish !!

Thanks COACH...........

Firs of all...

you should be able to catch both large and small mouth on those craws.

Good luck!

Jason

Live crawfish are a great bait for LM and SM.  I used to fish em alot.  Hook em through the tail and free line em.  They won't last long.  Just watch that they don't hide under a rock or something.

in my personal experience, hooking dads in the tail not only great decreases the number of hookups, but of the fish that you do hook, a MUCH larger percentage of the fish will be deep hooked.

Hook them through the spine in the nose.... Like this >

They will stay alive much longer, and your bass will be hooked in the top of the mouth, often right in the top center of the lip.

Peace,

Fish

May I suggest removing the claws, too?

And be patient.

Move the live cawfish around some every 30 or 45 seconds to make sure it does not bury into the mud or hide under a rock or in the decay leaves, etc on the bottom.

Just let it sit there as the more you cast it the shorter it will live.

Let us know how you do.
