Crawling out of my skin this morning !!!

Recommended Posts

I guess most of my life (except for the time when I'm already on the water ;-) involves some level of fishing fever..... but sometimes it's worse than at others. This morning it's worse !

I joked on another thread, about coming here, as being like group therapy :-) I mean, when I walk into my work place and tell them, "I need a fishing fix REALLY bad" ! They usually just laugh.... but it really kills me, because they just don't / couldn't possibly understand !

I wonder if anybody has ever seen a psychiatrist for "fishing addiction" ? I mean, when you consider that fishing has undoubtedly ruined at least a few careers, relationships, etc. it has to be a very serious thing sometimes, huh ?

But then, I think about what they tells alcoholics and addicts..... Nobody can make them stop. They have to "want to stop"....... And darnit.... I don't want to stop ! :-)

Oh well. What's a fishin' fool to do ?

Peace,

Fish

Only 1 1/2 more days :-)

I am like that during the winter because up here in NY there is a little bass fishing wrecker called ice and I am only able to go ice fishing like once a month. I know what you are saying. Sitting in school during a sunny day kills me too.

I definitely feel bad for you: as a matter of fact, so bad that I am heading to the lake right now with the trip being dedicated to you. Thanks! All I wanted to do was watch TV.

THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD FISHING WITH MY DAD WAS HE WAS CONTENT CATCHING PAN FISH AND I WANTED TO CATCH BIG FISH.

I think the difference here, Fish, is that alcoholics & addicts need to give those substances up completely--moderation does not occur for them.  Although one can, I suppose, become truly addicted to just about anything, the real question is:  Does it cause a problem for you?  Are you sacrificing important things like primary relationships &/or your job to focus on fishing?  If not, then where's the problem?  Life is about dealing w/limits at times--makes us appreciate the activity all the more!  If so, then there obviously is a problem, but quitting fishing probably isn't the answer.  Once a person could deal w/the life problems they're avoiding by fishing, I think they could most likely still maintain a passion for fishing w/o a problem.

OK--I know everyone's thinking, "Oh, brother..."  BUT I have a feeling that your question was serious in nature.  When there have been things in my life that seem to take over & I'm feeling bad about it, there've always been other things that I'm avoiding.

Even w/alcoholics (and I've known many), when they do quit, there is a lot still to figure out/deal with.  Alcohol wasn't the original problem--it was the attempted solution.

I'll shut up now.

Thanks to all, and hey anglerintraining, in a certain sense, I was being serious ! I do go through bouts of fishing fever which are so bad, it feels like I have drank 10 big cups of strong coffee, then strapped into a chair, and not allowed to move !

But now, as far as your question > Are you sacrificing important things like primary relationships &/or your job to focus on fishing? < Oh absolutely I am ! I have been single for 10 years, and I refuse to get a 'real' Monday through Friday job..... But is this wrong, if these are calculated decisions ? I mean, I have had "serious relationships" and "serious, career type jobs"...... but all that did for me, was allow me to compare lifestyles, so that I would know how much happier I am, living the life that I am now ! :-)

If I sounded like I was complaining about anything, it's that I can only manage to fish three 8 to 10 hour days a week, instead of five.

Oh well.

I agree with Fish Chris here. I get bouts of crazy amounts of nervous energy if I haven't been fishing for a while, or haven't had a good fishing trip in a while. As far as "addictions" go fishing seems like a pretty harmless one to me. Yeah so ya don't have a serious job :P...yeah so your single :P. So what? If yer happy then screw it all and quench those fishing fevers to your hearts content. I can't do that sometimes...between marriage, my 17 month old daughter, and work I sometimes just have to deal with the fever. But that's not that bad since I love spending time with my wife and daughter....work on the other hand... ;)

Hey Fish,

You're happy, you're not hurting anyone.  How can this be a wrong decision?  As for the uncomfortable "withdrawals", maybe try telling yourself what you would tell your  best buddy.  What would that be?
