BANK FISHING

Featured Replies

I'M FROM CYPRUS WHERE WE ARE FISHING LARGEMOUTH BASS IN RESERVOIRS ONLY. THE MOST IMPORTAND THOUGH IS THAT IT IS NOT ALLOWED TO FISH FROM A BOAT.

IN MOST OF THE RESERVOIRS THE WATER IS STAINED.

MAX WEIGHT OF LARGEMOUTH BASS COUGHT IN CYPRUS WAS AROUNG 4KGS.

I WOULD LIKE TO EXCHANGE MY EXPERIENCE FOR FISHING BASS FROM THE BANK AND ALSO TO GET SOME TIPS FROM MORE EXPERIENCED FISHERMEN.

WELCOME, ISLAND BASSIN.

VERY CURIOUS, WHY ARE YOU NOT ALLOWED TO FISH FROM A BOAT?

  • Super User

It's great to have you join us.

You will receive many replies to your query with many suggestions.  Try them all!

Can you get the same types of baits we have in the US in your area?

Plus the fact that we need a little more information, such as:

How big is the pond?

Any cover along the shore?

Have you loated any underwrater structure that would hold fish?

Can you walk the entire pond or just a few areas?

What tackle do you use?

Ever try plastic worms or Senkos?

Do you throw a crankbait or lipless crankbait?

Do you fish "Texas" or "Carolnia" rigs?

Do you fish "Shakey Head" plastics?

Do you use "buzzbaits" or other topwaters?

Let us know.

And the photo is beautiful.

Good luck.

I imagin that resivour being really rocky for some reason. I would try a jig.

We have ask the same question to the authorties many times without any aswher.

Welcome aboard!!

I assume you must know Vyron? Fom Cyprus?

*reservoirs are used for public drinking water supply.

In my state, you can't even bank fish in a primary reservoir.

In a secondary reservoir you are allowed to fish and you can even use a boat but only an electric powered one so I am assuming it is because of fear of contamination.

YES I THINK I KNOW VYRON.

AS YOU SAID THERE IS A SOLUTION , YOU CAN USE ELECTRIC POWERED ENGINE OR EVEN A BOAT WITHOUT AN ENGINE AT ALL!! YOU JUST NEED THE BOAT TO GAIN ACCESS TO SOME DEEP WATER AREAS ESPECIALLY IN SUMMER

AN ISLAND LOCATED AT EAST MEDITTERANEAN SEA

With bank fishing, I would throw baits that are geared to fishing shallower water in the first place.  Zoom flukes (watermelonseed), 1/4oz green jigs, 1/4oz spidergrub jigs (from Gary Yamamato also called the hula grub), Mann's Baby 4- and Baby 1- crankbaits, and possibly some carolina rigged brush hogs to start.

As far as location, I'd try to get out on any point that is near a shallow water cove but extends out into deeper water.  Why?  Because you can work shallow to deep and back.  Points hold fish and they are easy to fish from the bank.  If you can find a good cove with a creek channel in it and a point extending to it, you have found a place that will hold bass year-round.  Hope this helps.

I agree with Aint Texan about location. I fish from shore all year, and the places that I catch most of my fish sound exactly like the spot that he just described. When it comes to baits, I believe that I would have to know more about the types of small fish and forage that exist in the area. (size, color, profile, etc.) Though I think Mepps in line spinners would be a great place to start.

Welcome aboard!!! :)
