I hear that if a bass hits a lure once, it will never fall for it again. Please tell me this is a myth.

Not true.

If it were true all the 'lil pond fish would be "unfishable"  

I estimate about 20 to 30 fish in a tiny pond I go about every other week. I can fish about 10 of them... And I'm sure I'm fishing the same ones.... Poor Bass...  

certain fishing spots can be "pressured" but that is due to the size of the water and how much fishing activity that water receives. but, besides from a completely horrible pressure on a small body of water, that is very un true

Phewww! I was about to consider those cheapo "different look every time" lures!

They might not hit the same lure again shortly after hooked, but they will eventually. How long til they forget and hit the same lure again, I don't know, but they will some time.

If you catch a bass with a red spot on his lip hes been caught already

I don't belive it. I have had a bass hit a jig four times intill I hooked him.

ive hooked the same bass on the same lure many times and surprisingly it was with bigger fish that are supposed to be smart :-?

thats def. not true but it does seem to me that some bass become conditioned to certain techniques.  some things like a jig or a worm, i believe are immune to this sort of thing since they resemble so many things at different times.  spinnerbaits however seem to sometimes get recognized as something the fish associate with something bad happening.  especially in some smaller lakes where they must see spinnerbaits whizzing by there heads every day.  and that dosent even mean you cant catch one on a spinnerbait but you prob. will have to get a reaction strike to do so.

its hard to prove any of this, but i do think that SOME fish can become conditioned to SOME lures.  there will always be some that are kamikazee and when you catch em look like they been feeding on pincushions or something.

Why a worm is the #1 lure of all time

Plastic Worm (Texas rigged) It's a long, thin shape resembles the profile of a wide variety of forage in the world of the bass, including earthworms, snakes, eels, and baitfish. Its action is almost entirely dependent on the contours of the bottom; and the rod movements of the fisherman, making it very random. It moves with little noise; the noise that it does make comes mostly from the random clicking of the sinker as it hits bottom. Bright colors and larger size can be used to increase its attracting qualities. Because of its basic resemblance to a wide array of living forage, this lure presents very few negative cues, and is hard for big bass to learn not to hit.

Here is the official answer:

Studies have proven that the plastic worm is the only lure made that a BASS CANNOT REMEMBER!

That is, a bass will continue to strike a worm even after repeated catches, whereas a bass will "turn off" to other lures, spinner baits and crank baits etc. after wearing them out on them. That's why you cannot continue to catch them on your honey hole with the same lure over and over. Bass will stop eating that which will eradicate them. Not true with the plastic worm, however. Although we all know bass will prefer a different bait at different times (i.e. "the pattern") you can always go back to the worm to catch them.
