When you use a spinnerbait do you have to use any weight with it?

no

and if so how and where should you tie the weight

If you got to use a weight then you might want to put a bullet weight up the line then tie to the bait. Another option is to take a rubber core bass weight and take out the rubber part and pinch it onto the shank of the hook.

how do you necessarily use a spinnerbait? do you just cast and real in? what is the technique

For the most part I use them in stained to muddy water or overcast days. Think of them as a weedless crankbait because you can throw them in and around most cover. For the most part I just cast the bait out and reel it in. If I get the bait around a stick up or log I slow it down and let the bait slowly fade to a deeper depth. I sometimes bump the bait into objects or shake and jerk the bait to make the blades smack together.

what is the difference between live bait and spinners and other lures

Live bait is alive and has random movement and a spinnerbait and other lures either have motion already in the lure or action that you put into the bait to make it look alive.

Before focusing on a bunch of lures and techniques, spend some time in the BassResource Library. You will learn so much more there initially than from the topics posted in the forum. This is where to start:

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RoadWarrior is right. The beginners section of the BassResource library will give you info on virtually any topic you're looking for as a beginner. Reading isn't nearly as exciting as going out and catching you're first bass but once you pick up on what your reading and go out and practice what you've learned you will be rewarded.

Welcome aboard and good luck on you're first LMB! Hope it's a big one!

Welcome!!  I agree with reading the beginners articles.  They will help tremendously.  Also, one of the best ways to learn is time spent on the water.  Get out there and put what you read into real life situations.  I'm sure you'll be rewarded greatly!

Welcome aboard.  Read anything you can on the subject.  I fish spinnerbaits 75% of the time I am on the water.  Watch water color and match accordingly.  Muddy the water go to bright colors big blades.  Cast and retrive pause and go all work you just have to try and see.

The beginner info is great take a look at it. As to your question about live bait, the reason you dont hear alot about folks using it is because most folks here are tournment anglers, which means that they cant use live bait. In my opinion live bait is better than any lure any day, because you cant fake the real thing. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits imitiate injured baitfish. I dont know where you are from but depending on where you from will determine what type of live bait you will use. When I was stationed in Georgia ( why did I ever leave there) shiners were the live bait of choice. We would catch shiners out of the lake and use them, not only is that cheaper, but wild shiners act more "natural" than store bought. I hope this rambling helped you out.
