Rain gear foot wear

Featured Replies

LL Bean is the king of "cold and wet".  They make the best and back it 100%.

That being said I have a pair of gore-tex thinsulate Timberalnds that I used for years.  They are virtually indestructable, but cost $240.00 about 8 years ago.

Lotsa good stuff out there.  but Tims and Beans are among the best.

Any Columbia, Merrell, or North Face are better suited for more intense cold situations.  But, if the cold isn't horrible, the Sperry Barracuda boot it top of the line.

I use Columbia rain gear and Sperry shoes. I always wore Timberland with no problems, last spring West Marine had Sperry's on sale so I tried them. I would recommend either brand.

Falcon

1 pair of socks (wicking kind, not cotton)

1 pair anything w/gore-tex.

Wanta see me go home even if I catching hawgs let my feet get cold and I'm outta there  >:(

Winters here in the Deep South are always wet and cold so I always wear Sorel's from December until April.

My Sorels are close to 30 years old. With liners in them, I even wear them snowshoeing. They're indestructable.

I've been fishing in the cold rain a bit lately and I have been wearing Red Head Bone Dry 1200 gram thinsulate rubber boots. They are actually my hunting boots, but my feet stay warm and dry in these. They are only $79 at BPS.

I was assuming we were talking about "for use on a boat".

Below is the everyday warm wear for up here.

Left to right    The North Face ultra XCR (gore-Tex), Rocky Boots  (1800g thinsulate), and the paratrooper (military issue, air bladder boots)

The pair on the right inflate by twisting the valve on the side, blow the boot up like a balloon and twist it shut.  Good down to -120

Thanks for all the great information. Yes, I am interested in foot wear for use when using a boat for bass fishing.

Like I said,

Lotsa good stuff out there.

The BPS or Cabella's catalogue will have more than enough choices.

I'm partial to LL bean for anything related to cold.  They invented superior customer service.

another great resource not mentioned yet is Amazon.com.  They have almost as much to sell as e-bay and they too have outstanding customer service.

good luck and stay warm.

Russ,

Wow!

At -120 I ain't doing nothin' outside!

lol, that includes walking, lol, those things are like carrying a 3 yr old on each leg!  But they do work ;)

I got NorthFace boots on zappos for cheap.  Like $80~90 w/ shipping. The boots have an X2 on the side and are made with Goretex and have Vibram soles.  I love them.  I use them rain or shine.  They are light and wear like hiking boots.  8+ hrs is no sweat.

You will have to hunt them down.  They go on sale every now and then.  I know its not as easy as click and buy, but you will get a deal.
