spring fishing tips

Featured Replies

I am not new to fishing but I am new to spring fishing, I've never done it. I usually do all my fishing in the summer but this year I'm starting in spring. Anyway in preparing for the spring fishing season, is there anything really important that I need to know that makes spring fishing different then summer fishing? Thanks for the help.

The bass need to move shallow in the spring. They may not do it all a once but you will find more of them shallow than any other time of the year.

Yes, there are differences for the four seasons and pre and post spawn.

Check out the fishing tips on this site for spring and pre and post spawn.

Check out what the pros have to say on their web sites.

Do you get any fishing e-mails about different techniques, baits, etc.?  If not, sign up for some and read, read and read about how to fish each season.

And I suggest you consider purchasing some books on fishing that discusses the four seasons and how to fish each.  Also, suscribe to Bassmaster Magazine, Bass Times and FLW Magazine plus Bassin and you can read about lures and techniques for each season of the year.

Remember, water temperature!  Read about water temperature.

Good luck and be sure to post the photos of your big bass when you get them this spring.

I love fishing C-rig lizzards in weeds you should try it to. Bass think that the salamanders are trying to eat there eggs so they will attack your salamander even if they are not in a feeding mood.

You'll get alot of response on this topic.I take it you are from Canada?Alot of tips hold true no matter the location but I would try to get local advice too.

Spring,IMO,is the best time of year for us "bass addicts",to get our fix!

Fish in shallow water with a horny toad weightless or light weight T-rig. Also 6" C-rig junebug plastic worm works great for me!!! GOOD LUCK! :)

I agree with CJ, spring on Lake St. Clair is when I get incredible numbers of smallmouth, and ALOT of HUGE fish.

When you c-rig, how from the bait is the weight?

normally about 18-24" when fishing shallow water..

There's only a foot or two of ice between me and open water!  This time of the year is so depressing for me  :-[ .
