Bigger fish

Featured Replies

As you can see by my signature, the biggest bass I caught this year was 2 pounds 10 ounces. I've fished a bit this spring and beginning of summer and I can't seem to nail those monsters. I've seen pictures of people getting their PBs and nice fish, but I can't seem to do the same.

I've tried everything from fishing into deeper water, trying bigger baits and using different techniques. Here at Lake Orange there are some monster bass. Some 6s, 7s and 8s have been recorded and even a few 9s. But all I get are 1 pound and under...

What can I do to increase my chances and odds of catching bigger fish??

Thanks for any help!

John

I would try moving off shore to deep structure, humps, ledges, etc. and throw some jigs or deep diving cranks.

Try night fishing.

Spend alot of time on the water and keep a journal.

Mark the spots where you are catching better than average fish.

Add all relevant info.  date, water temp, cloud cover, water clarity, lure and presentation are essential.

Keep trying new locations and experiment with different techniques.  See if patterns of big fish behavior are beginning to emerge.

Alot of guys catch the "fish of a lifetime" by being in the right place at the right time....meaning luck.

But the guys who consistantly catch big fish, are hunting for big fish.  It's a different way of bass fishing.  It can be frustrating if you need "action" but if you can stand getting skunked or catching fewer but larger fish it is well worth the effort.

Swimbaits.

Get some mattlures baby bass and bluegill and such..

Like avid said, if you dont' mind catching less fish, and can take a few goose egg days then try that.

Some people go for numbers, others go for size.

throw one of these out about every thirty feet or so and you will deffinetly find a biggun ;D

1. Structure in deeper water, immediately adjacent to even deeper water.

2. Bigger baits/ lures. Specifically, jigs and soft plastics.

3. Slower presentation
