Finding discontinued lures

Featured Replies

Hi guys, first post here.

Anyone know of any good sources for discontinued lures, other than e-bay?

I'm looking for Spro/prime chug minnow 35   specifically shad color, but any color will do.

sorry, guess this should have been in the tackle forum, I'm a dummy.

Not a dummy. Took me a short bit to get used to the proper shelves here.

BTW, welcome! Great site.

Some suggestions on finding old lures.

Google them and see if anything comes up.

Luck out and find them at an antique store or an estate sale.

Go to the library, or a book store, and find a book on antique lures/collecting and contact the editor for their input on how to find antique lures and the specific ones you are seeking.

Sometimes these collector books will include the names of other collectors or collector clubs that you can contact.

I have seven old lures in a frame plus a few more that I use.

Arbogast Mudbugs and some other old ones are still in use by me.

Finding old lures can be fun, especially when you actually find them.  :o

P.S.  I think Bassin' or Bassmaster Magazines have a section on old lures.  Check them out at your favorite bookstore and contact the individual who pens the articles.

Wish I could be more specific but I get so many magazines that I actually can't remember which one addresses old lures and antiques.

Anyone out there know for sure????  ;D   ;D   ;D

Bassmaster Mag has a section for "antiques"...

There is one listed here. I just found it with google.

I'm not sure if I have that exact color but I've several of the Spro chuggers that I've been thinking about putting here for sale.  I'm at work now but when I get home a little later today I'll check and let you know.

Thanks for the help so far guys.  I've picked some up off ebay lately. But I'm still looking for more if anyone has them.

The Spro chug minnow 35 is not a antique. At least not as far as I know.  They just stopped making them a few years back. I've caught plenty of bass on them, but I target hybrid striped bass with them in a local lake. I've caught them on just about any top water, but the chug minnow seems to outfish everything else I've tried.

I've found a lot of things I can't seem to find anywhere else at small, out of the way tackle shops. You will have to get a little off the beaten path to find these places, but they will often have things I haven't seen anywhere else in over 5 years, and the owner is usually friendly and helpful.
