Storing a bunch of cranks in 1 box

Featured Replies

If you want to cram a lot of cranks into 1 plano box without the hooks getting all tangled up here is another option to consider. I use the twist ties that you get with trash bags. I take a strip of ties and cut it in half because you don't need them that long for most cranks. Some people do the same thing with rubber bands but I find this to be easier and faster - and pretty cheap too!

You can see there are about 50 baits in this box with room for more and I can search through them without them getting tangled.

Oh, and this gives you something to do while waiting for the ice to thaw! :o

Chalk up another great tip to one of the fine folks on BassResource.com!!!

Great Tip ! and I've got plenty of time on my hands . . . .

I also recently switched from a 2" tall storage box to this plano 3771 Size: 14"L x 9.13"W x 1.38"H The thinner profile is great for placing only one bait per compartment and yet the box is so thin I can also get in a couple more boxes adding to almost the same number of baits in the tackle bag. And it is definitely less of a hassle - especially during night operations . . .

Great idea! Looks like I have a project this evening.

Excelent tip - I tried everything so far will have to give this a shot - I know the little hook holders dont work and get lost on the boat tie raps are plenty arround my house.

Thanks for the tip.

What do you do for single treble hooks baits?

Looks like hooks would still find each other but not near as much as if you left them loose. Good tip!

Yes, they will catch some times but they come right off.  It's much better then the tangled mess you get without the twist ties.

Thank you.  Tips like that are why I search through these boards each day?

Now... what's your favorite twist tie?  I'm a Wonder Bread tie guy! :o

LOL! You gotta get the imported ones from Japan!  ;D

What is the furry thing in the top right corner of your box?

I do the same thing, but instead of rubberbands, I use the polybands that women use for their hair. They are only a couple bucks for 200 or so. Found some in Walmart. They work better than rubber bands as they are stronger and less sensitive to extreme cold or heat. Some guys use dental bands made for braces or retainers which probably are even better. Regardless, I can stuff an obcene amount of bass crankbaits in a 3730 Musky size plano. They don't tangle nearly as much and you never get that multiple crank mess that results when you are looking for your favorite color. They work even better on stickbaits and 3 treble hook lures like Husky Jerks or L.C. Pointers. I spent last winter putting them on all my treble hook baits that are prone to tangle while watching tv. They save alot of space. I have at least 80 cranks in one box, where I used to have 4 different boxes for the same lures. Hanging boxes that store stickbaits vertically also work but it is harder to find or identify the lures and this is cheaper.
