cold fronts....best time to hit the lake.

Featured Replies

Your favorite lake is experiencing a late spring and the bass are just starting their spawn. Let's set up a weather for the next few days with a cold front coming in. Today it's sunny in the high 70's ... tomorrow mostly cloudy & a high of 58 ... Weds partly cloudy & a high of 64 and then Thurs back to the mid 70's. Now if you were planning on going once this week to your favorite lake, which day? Tues, Weds or Thurs? I'm just trying to figure which day affects the bass to change it's spring pattern.

I would go today. I go sometimes on the day before a coldfront hits and the bass seem to go on a feeding craze in my area I guess to stock up before the front hits. I usually have a good time on those days hehe. :)

That is only a 12 degree change which is not enough temperature change to worry about because the cloud cover will retain the heat; if you had blue bird skies & winds I'd be concerned.  Since you mentioned the bass were just starting their spawn I would look for the first break line away from the spawning areas. I would probably throw a Rat-L-Trap, Spinner bait or suspending jerk bait & follow up by Texas rig, Carolina rig, or Jig-N-Craw.

i like fishing before a front comes through. I usually dont care to much about fishing during the front. I think it usually affects the fish for a good two days after a front comes through.
