I did get this out, but how would you have removed this, without consulting a doctor?

Before telling my tale, I wanted to see what everyone else thought.  I could feel the barb under the skin, so it wasn't very deep.

I did feel something during removal, but it could have been A LOT worse as far as discomfort goes.

Aw, it'll just rust out in a few days and he'll be fine...  

Considering I didn't want to wait for it to rust out and the fact I hit it on everything possible between loading the boat and getting home, I couldn't wait to get this darn thing out!  I hit it four times just loading the boat!   ;D

Actually this happened to me during my last tourny, I was removing the hook and the fish started jumping around and I couldn't hold the fish tight enough and she sank a triple grip into the top of my middle finger.

It was early so doctor was out of the question, I had to use my needle nose pliers and yank it out. It hurt like you can guess what and it bled for a few minutes but it heeled up.

I'd just yank it out =/

but I've heard of a method where you tie line to the hook then with one hand quickly put pressure on the hook while simultaneously yanking it out with the line.

Push it through and cut off the barb. My brother in law put a Lucky Craft LVR size 2 Gamakatsu through my ear. He had to push it the rest of the way through and cut it off. It hurt but pulling it out would have really been bad. Besides that the barb is meant to keep it from pulling out and it went through forwards easier.

I got nailed by a treble hook once. A friend and I were fishing on my boat when he had a "casting malfunction" and ended up sinking a treble from an Excaliber Pop 'n Image into my leg. Since we were only out on the water for 15 minutes, I pushed it through and cut it off and went back to fishing!  

OUCHHHHH!!! :'(    there are hook remover kits available have seen them several places i think bass pro sells one always thought it would be handy to keep in boat never bought one. think i will now after seeing that.

Don't push the hook through and cut the barb off, you can do more damage that way. Take a shoe lace, if you have on shoes, or the heavest fishing line and double it. Tie the strong line or cord into a loop about 18" long. Place your free hand through the loop and hold the open loop between your index finger and thumb. Drop the open look over the hook eye and slide it up to the hook bend. Now with your other hand , press down on the hook eye and forward towards the hook bend. The tricky part is now; while pressing down and forward, snap the cord loop that is around the hook bend hard away from the hook eye and the hook will pop out without any damage to your tissue. DO NOT TRY to remove hooks NEAR YOUR EYE!!! Go home and get professional help.

Loop line around the bend in the hook, press down on the hook eye, snap it straight away from the eye or lay your hand on the skin to get the correct level. It will work unless the barb has penetrated tendons and is painless. If the hook is in the tendons(You will know when you try the first time) or around the eyes a trip to the E/R is recommended. I fished eight and 1/2 hours with a rouge in my back several years ago. Not fun.

Ok, I think I have had enough responses to tell the method I used.

Since the hook was only slightly under the skin, I pushed the point through the skin.  I then cut the hook as close to the joint of the trebles, which was the most painful part.  When the hook was cut, the shockwave from the hook breaking free went straight to the bone.  I then sanitized the area with hydrogen peroxide.  I made small incisions with a VERY SHARP knife beside the hook point until I could work the barb through the skin.  After the barb came through I could just pull the hook out without any pain or tissue damage.  I did use liberal amounts of peroxide to cleanse the area.  

I have had no soreness from the hookset or the removal.  The wound is healing very well and it's very small scabs where I made the incisions.

I must be obsessed with bass fishing, I got the hook in my arm at 1PM, weigh in was at 2, then I went grocery shopping and then came home and unhooked the boat!  All before removing the hook from my arm.  Then add tonight to the list when during the tournament a severe thunderstorm warning was issued, three possible tornado touchdowns, and I kept fishing!  I must be crazy or obsessed with catching the bucket mouth.

Thanks for the comment on the pic!  I actually took that with my cell phone.  I was surprised how well it looked, as gross as it is.
