Draw down returing to full pool

Featured Replies

Generally speaking, if a body of water (man made res.) is drawn down for a season and then returns to full pool the following season, will the bass that used to be found shallow (prior to draw down) return to the shallows?  Or will those fish adapt to the lower water levels and stay there?

Bass are creatures of inherited characteristics , they will go back to the shallower water.

Some will follow the water as it rises. They can be found in water only deep enough to barely cover their back if the conditions are right.

I guess your asking if the fish will remain shallow after the water levels drop?

Yes they will but will probally be found closer to deeper water.

Not a chance BadKarma42! You and Speedbead need to fish deep water from now on!  ;D ;D ;D Of course, I'm only joking! Just had to give you a hard time! LOL

CJ-  I am asking if the fish will return to shallow waters once the waters rise, or will they stay deeper.

basser-You'll have to join us!  There are only two shallow fish there now!

My only experience has been with Beltzville Dam, in NE PA. Several times during severe droughts they have draw down the lake (I think it was to help keep the salt water at bay in the Delaware River). All the shallow vegetation died off, and when the water finally rose again, it was quite awhile (months) before the bite was good from the shoreline (not that the bite is ever good at the Dead Sea). The only good thing about the drawdowns was you were able to check out and see what the lake structure looked like when their was no water (and build a couple of rockpiles in the process that few know about ;)).

The bass will move with the lake level; the shallow bass will stay shallow & the deep bass will stay deep regardless of lake level.

Yep, Catt's right. They'll not be in the same place but the same depth.

Sorry I read your post wrong.  :-/
