I like largemouth because they fight harder and get bigger.

Around here, pound for pound, the smallmouth fight harder than any largemouth.

I actually like them about the same. However, I treasure a big smallie over a big black any day.

My experience is that smallies fight much harder than largemouth.

Smallies fight harder.

I'd take a day on Dale Hollow any day.

Have you ever caught a large smallie? If you have or ever do you will answer your own question. Smallies are incredibly athletic and very strong. Largemouth are more bulldogish and much slower. We catch alot of both here.

I caught my first two smallmouths yesterday and can honestly say that I like catching them better. They weren't very big, but put up a much better fight than any largemouth of that size that I have caught. I can only imagine how a 5 or 6 pounder would fight.

Hmm...

Given the choice with the same opportunity, I might not ever fish for green trout.

8-)

Smallies, by far, and river Smallies in particular just don't know how to say "quit".

Smallmouths....I like fishing for both but if given a choice between one over the other i'll take the smallmouths.

Gotta vote smallie.   Now if smallies got as big as lm's but still fought like a smallie.........THAT would be a fun fish.

Smallmouth Bass, hands down. I hope you get an opportunity to catch one at least 3 lbs.. Then you will understand.

They're all fun, but given the choice, I'll take smallmouth every time.

Smallies by far.

No doubt about it.

Nothing compares to the air shows that the smallies give ya. Not to mention how hard they tug at the line.  :)

Amen to that.

Smallmouth fight harder, but largemouth have the size thing going for them.  I fish the rivers/streams near me almost as often as ponds/lakes... I love catching both of the 'mouths.

It is a win win situation to me.  Can't lose fishing for either one.  If you held a gun to my head... I'll pick largemouth.

I caught my first couple of Smallies (probably around 3 - 4.5 lbs) didn't weigh they were OOS) this year and they definitely do fight longer/harder.

But I find the LargeMouth in my area more challenging because they head for cover and I will tend to power them in more than I would a SmallMouth in open water.
