Goby Baits=How To Fish Them?

Featured Replies

I fish alot of baits and I want to try these Goby baits this year. How do you fish them? What kind of hooks,or jigs do you use? I did see the Buckeye Goby Sled Jig and was thinking that this jig may be good for the goby baits. I did look at some goby baits and the head looks real thick ! Any input would be a help. :-? :-? :-?

I want to try them also so i bought some Goby gone by Strike King .

They have in the top part a tube . I guess you can insert a jig .

You can rig them almost anyway that you want.  I mostly use the GO-B-Gone and GULP! Goby, I prefer the rigging of the go-b-gone, using the internal jig head slot.  The GULP is pretty thick in the middle of the bait and you really dont get the greatest hooksets if you have it rigged weedless.  With that said, the gulp goby is one of the best dropshot gobys I have used on the great lakes for smallies.  I always set my dropshot weight about 6-8" below the hook and shake-drag-drop repeat. I also will use the storm goby as a bedding bait, seems bass of any kind cant resist it.  Hope this helps a little.

On the Hook 'N Look TV show they were diving in Lake Michigan and all the Gobys seemed to act more like crawfish than fish. They hug the bottom and scurry a couple of feet and stop. I might try dragging quickly for a foot or 2 and pausing to start with. Experiment from there.

I've used the Storm Wild Eye 4" Goby

I fish 'em like a swim bait.  Vary the retrieve.  Sometimes a steady retrieve with an occasional twitch, other times I jig them.  Sweep the rod, let it sink.  Reel in the slack, and repeat.

I've had good days with both retrieves, and there is not a goby to be found around here.

Drop-shot.......

Carolina rig them.  Lift - drop.  Repeat.  Set hook when you feel something funny at the end of your line.
