Top water help

Featured Replies

Just wondering what time of year and water temp. you start/Feel comfortable throwing topwater?

Pretty much all year round for me down here.  Mind you south florida is unlike anywhere else for bass...

i wouldnt pay so much attention to water temp, pay more attention to the depth and activity level of the bass.  if bass and baitfish are shallow in 55 degree water, give it a try!

Ive had bass slam flukes and spookes in 52-55 degree water when baitfish are around.

I use them spring through fall, generally in water that's in the mid-50s or higher, although I've caught fish in colder water.

I will throw a topwater all year long. I throw at least for 10 - 15 minutes first thing in the morning.

I've always had success year round. Like priegel said, I wouldn't worry about temp as much as activity and depth.

I start throwing buzzbaits when the water temp gets over 50.  I usually go topwater during low light conditions such as dawn, dusk, and cloudy days- but I've caught fish on topwater on sunny days as well.

The fish will tell you if you've picked a good time to fish a topwater lure.

In New England, we throw them whenever they won't bounce on ice.  We are a little crazy, but they WILL work.  You need to resolve that it won't be a #'s week, lol

The najority of folks are comfortable with 58-60 degrees

i use top water 80% of the time, i was using a storm hopper popper yesterday and caught about 40 fish or so in 6 hours.  however it's prob best to use once you start having warm days, which this weekend it was hot for massachusetts.
