XCalibur Xr50 Hooks and Split Rings

Featured Replies

Anyone know what size and brand hooks and split rings they use on the Xr50? I'd like to replace them. Had a small bass today rip off the front hook and split ring, and it appeared the back split ring was kind of loose as well. Then I was trying to use the pliers getting a hook out of another fish and one of the hooks on the back treble broke off. >;)

I REALLY REALLY like these lures (caught like 20 bass on one color today), but I don't think the hardware is top notch. Any help is appreciated!

These are the hooks...

Split rings are just an average every-day split ring.

I would suggest replacing the split rings with Lucky Craft #2 Lucky Rings and the hooks with Owner ST-36.  If memory serves, the xr50 comes with a #4 on the front and a #6 on the back.

I'm surprised to hear you had problems with your Xr50 hooks and split rings. I caught well over 100 bass and one muskie on mine last season, with absolutely no issues.

My guess is that you have gotten a bad one for some reason. I have caught plenty of fish on them and some bruisers as well. They are very strong lures!

No issues here either.

It is a #6 on the rear (at least on the one my buddy has) he hasnt changed his out yet and as far as i know its held up great.

Yeah, I think I must've got a bad one. I dunno. All the other ones I have have been performing okay, but this one was just killin' em the other day and I was having some troubles... I think the color's called Foxy Mama or something like that... Really awesome lure except for the few problems I've had. Thanks a lot guys!
