Reference Catagory?

Featured Replies

I was just thinking that there are certain things I seem to be trying to find on-line and was wondering if there is a place on here that I could goto for reference information?

For example, most people talk about gear ratio of reels, but I have found that the inches per turn (IPT) is more of a tell tale sign how fast a reel will retrieve. Sometimes it is hard to find the IPT for reels (especially for discontinued model reels). Also, I am always wondering how deep a certain crankbait will run (I know this can vary based on line size and type), but it would be good to know what it may run using a certain line size.

I wondering if there are others out there that are usually searching for this type of information and if anyone may have a good source for this? Maybe starting something like that here might not be a bad idea (unless it already exists). I have used the search tool many times looking for various pieces of info, which some cases yields what I am looking for, but a designated place for it would be cool. I guess this is just me thinking out loud and maybe I am the only one who looks for this type of info.

IPT can be found in many places, BPS has them listed, Shimano 's website also has them listed.

You can 't compare the gear ratio vs the IPT of two reels because there can be a huge difference btween the IPT of one reel when compared to other if you base your assumption on the gear ratio, example:

Calais 200APV.- gear ratio 5.0:1

Curado  200E5.- gear ratio 5.0:1

Equal gear ratios, should be the same IPT, right ? ...... yeah right !  ::)

Calais 200APV.- IPT 17"

Curado 200E5.- IPT 21"

That's a perfect example of what I am talking about.  Someone may see that they have the same gear ratio, but the IPT is a more valuable piece of information.  I was currently looking to the IPT for the Curado 100D, which is not listed on either Bass Pro or Shimano's website.  I did end up finding what it was, but it took a little searching.  Imagine if you went to a category that was titled "IPT for Reels" and under that category were the IPT for various brands of reels (which could be submitted by various people, but compiled in one place).

Those size 100 frame size reels:

Curado 100B

Curado 100D &DSV

Cronarch 50 Mg

Citica 100 DSV

and the imports:

Scorpion 1000

Scorpion 1000 Mg

All have the same gear ratio and the same IPT: 25" IPT.

A few years ago I wrote a thread where the GR and IPTs of the most popular reels ( spinning, bc and round bc ) of the time was listed.

That's one of the few things I go to the BPS site for, they list it with about every reel.  If they don't carry it, it's a crap shoot but mfr. sites and other retailers have some of the info.
