Shore fishing in August

Featured Replies

I'm going on vacation soon so I won't have any time to fish the rest of July. But when I get back I'll have plenty of time to fish, problem is I'm shorebound. The lake I usually fish has moderately clear/stained water. The structure is long points and underwater humps and roadbeds. The cover is laydowns, grass beds, and chunk rock/riprap. I've never fished this lake in August before so I don't have any previous success to go on. I know this a big question, but where would you start looking to find bass and what lures would you use? If I haven't given enough info please let me know. Thanks

Try slinging some crankbaits around that rip rap.

t-rig/jig to those laydowns maybe spinnerbait, weightless senko

lipless crank over the grass beds or a crank of appropriate depth

those are my guesses at what might work

Nice crank bait would work.

Also give a super brush hog a go. Just cast it out and crank it back slow but not too slow. That usually always produces for me.

i no for me, i just got into those super brush hogs it seems like when little bass hits it they go for the tails so u dont have to worry bout hauling lil guys in at least for me so far.

one thing i do need to know is the brush hog a bottom lure, swim bait, or both? also whatsthe best way to rig one? i did texas rig. so far my colors i got for them is junebug and watermelon red.

go for a reaction strike, throw anything that moves. so that being said:

Cranks

Spinnerbaits

Chatterbaits

Buzzbaits

walk the dog type topwaters

I also do alot of shoe fishing. I've had luck pitching and flipping an unweighted senko to visible structure like the laydowns, weeds and stumps. I just caught a 5+ pounder this way last weekend. Just remember to be stealthy approaching the bank, much like trout fishing.

You can also throw a 3/4 spinner bait quite a ways if the fish move out deeper.
