Casting Angle for Fishing a Ledge

Featured Replies

I have this ledge/underwater point or whatever you want to call it where I fish and I was wondering which angle you take on it to have the best chance at getting bit.  I realize you have to experiment a lot in bass fishing, but I just wondering where most of your cast will be.

You can see the structure pretty easily but in case you can't its marked by the " + " in the middle of the map.

Thanks for helping me out.

Ah nope! how about you hit the "mark" button directly on it and then give us north & west readings

Mike Iaconelli talked about this a few weeks ago. He said always

fish quarter casts (45*angle) , not parallel to cover

or straight up or down structure. I believe the theory

involves covering more water with greater variance.

Exactly the information I need.

Thanks!!

This looks exactly like a favorite point on my local lake and I would agree with positioning yourself so you can cast across the point at an angle, from both the front casting in across the point and also take a position on either side from the inside and cast out across the point. You also have that very nice slough going back on the left side. You have to fish that slough carefully as well, all the way back. It looks like a great place in the spring the way that slough goes back in there and opens up on that flat to the right. I caught my first fish last spring in an identical looking slough, a nice fat 6.5 pounder. Also, try and find the "point on the point." Somewhere on that point is a boulder a log, a gravel bed, a weed bed, a something that holds and attracts fish. On my lake it is a row of bushes in 17 feet.
